“There’s a smell and emotion that comes with fall,” “Still knows what the right priorities are in life: sausages,” “But are they tall with big asses like Jennifer Lawrence?” (another ‘the world and life is all speed dating’) “Can’t tell if crazy or joking or serious,” “His Lord and Savior: Booze. Get this man a horn,” “There’s this eternal problem of confusing source for signal,” “There is what is. There’s what is truth, even if we can’t fully grasp it in its raw form,” “He’s in it just to play,” “That’s it. That’s their strategy: Thorkell,” “The human carnage is fine. I will not stand for animal abuse. Poor deer,” “He’s his biggest fan. And occasionally his mother,” “..and then also Ragnar and this drunk priest. Just for fun,” “Is the Prince a Princ*ess*? Or is he just really stunningly beautiful?” “The Prince might just be Gojo-level good looking,”

You keep saying that their plan is to just put Thorkell on the battlefield but if you pay attention to the fight sequences, Thorkells men are extremely strong, all of their fight scenes so far have them dominating the enemy forces

It's tough cause I think one of the measures of evaluating choice is how aware people are that there is a choice at all. That seems to me to be where luck truly plays a role. Do you have enough experience or opportunities to reflect outside the norm to abstract and realize that what you know isn't all there is to know? Without that, the value system you're born into is just the way things are. And it's tough to say where the line is or what it takes to make someone conscious that there's more to it

Also I swear Thorkell is Mr. Peanutbutter as a viking

I find it very hard to judge these characters on a moral level. Of course a lot of the actions they do are very evil, especially later on. But as God is the ultimate confirmation / validation that what you're doing is right, and if in their belief it doesn't matter what you do besides that, i.e if you die on the battlefield you get into heaven. Then I think I think it's hard to say whether these characters themselves are really evil, especially if they haven't come in contact much with other religions, or are fully convicted theirs are 100% true and right, which I think is very likely for the time they are in. I suppose what makes and separates a good from a bad person in their religion is whether you're brave and powerful, and these things matter much more than the actions you commit, even if they are abhorrent looking at them more wholly. This makes me very hesitent to judge their morality on this level today

A lot of powerful themes coming out of this upcoming arc. Everything up until this point, including subtle themes, make this one of the best emotional rollercoasters.

Feels like it's all coming together

Man this episode sets up so many good things like you said

Last comment I promise lol, but without giving too much away, @25:09 just for future reference, make sure to always pay attention to who exactly Askeladd swears upon the name of during any given time. He very intentionally chooses to swear upon his father Olaf’s name in some circumstances, and chooses to swear upon a different ancestor’s name in other circumstances. So just keep an eye out for those occasions and it’ll give you a good indicator on whether or not he plans on remaining faithful to the promise he’s swearing.

Also, idk if you’ve ever gotten a sub version where the lyrics are displayed on screen, but if you’d like another reason to enjoy the OP more; (if I’m not mistaken, exact wording differs between translation versions) that last screaming line roughly translates to something like: “will someone please try and give me a fucking answer?” Just in case the audio itself wasn’t clear enough about this OP focusing on Thorfinn’s inner conflict and confusion lol the lyrics make it even more poignant

Thorkell really out here being the literal living manifestation of a woodchipper out on the battlefield lol. Just little pieces and blood flying everywhere he goes. This man is a walking demonetization flag lmao
