That would have been interesting to see. I'm guessing there was something fundamental about the way he was doing it that makes Kaguya unsatisfied or unable to accept it?

loved the point about how its like season 1 and 3 fighting each other. there was actually a chapter that the anime sadly skipped before the culture festival where miyuki is just straight up flirting with kaguya, doing everything she interprets as being 'pretty much a confession'. he's absolutely looking to progress the relationship which is really cool to see after so long

It doesn't pull your chain with it imo, you just gotta keep watching chief. Wait for the next episode. For me its not unsatisfying, if anything it actually sped up their potential relationship. Like Goodwin said, it was a really awesome and positive moment for Ishigami, and it was also a hilarious scene, so I really like this writing choice.

For a show that is pretty well-written and doesn't often pull your chain when it really counts, I don't agree with the writer's choice to have Ishigami's confession be an accident. That was a really unsatisfying fakeout that doesn't seem necessary to me. More or less the same result could've been achieved, such as him worrying about Tsubame avoiding him, if the confession was intentional. However, a highlight of this episode for me was Ishigami pulling Iino away from the boys and her follow up tantrum

yeah, it's Ishigami being her guardian angel as ever. it's easy to read as overprotective, but he doesn't trust her not to be flattered into doing something out of her depth, which has been somewhat of a running joke ("don't go to a host club").

Regarding Iino - she is a sucker for compliments so it's really easy for her to be wooed by complete strangers. The guys were outsiders (notice they are not wearing the school uniform) that go around hitting on pretty girls during cultural festivals (Chika mentioned this in a previous episode). Once again Ishigami comes in to protect Iino which actually helps Tsubame rethink her initial answer. Also, it's a little thing, but notice that Iino calls Onodera, Rei-chan. Despite their not so positive start, they've gotten quite close during this festival.
