This ended up being an actually amazing episode even though I was worried it might be awkward. Jiro's dub actor is great, and that flashback scene was super well done. I love how they chose to color and draw the background.

One day closer to 25

So I went ahead and finished through S4 back when you were still in the sports festival and I’m excited to watch a reaction where I haven’t seen the episode yet.

Right I really think that both of those elements are essential for the show. It really feels like so little if anything is wasted. It's all connected and always feels like it takes what came before and adds to it.

Alex G

That's really interesting. I was only vaguely aware of the lyrics because there was so much going on, but that seems like a very direct statement of that idea. Really great stuff

Alex G

Yeah that was such a perfect choice and I think that's what did it for me too

Alex G

Planning on it!

Alex G

That's a really nice thought

Alex G

so excited for the next two episodes, theyre my favorite of the season

bebberoni

Damn I didn't think Ari smiling would make me cry :')

Jupiterninja

I think he wants to be a hero but since her parents taught her music, she felt some pressure to go into music. And she does enjoy music, but her dream is to be a hero.

Craig Stanley

Hound Dog, Ectoplasm and Snipes sure make a scary trio

Ice

Eri's smile on the concert is probaly my favorite scene of the whole show, is so satisfying to see that she is finally having a good moment, about the arc in general is not my favorite but i loved gentle and la brava and the festival so was a pretty solid one for me, better than the provisional licence one im my opinion

Sonozaki Shinji

It's tough because there are a lot of great episodes in S4, but for me, this one is the best. Eri smiling is just the perfect emotional resolution to the Overhaul Arc and the Anime went above and beyond to sell the festival, anyone dismissing this arc as filler is missing the point imo. I think it is precisely the back and forth between the high intensity stuff and the more laid back parts that makes MHA work so well. Which is more to your taste comes down to personal preference, but both is needed. Now prepare yourself for a banger of a season finale!

This arc really shows that it does not need to be world-ending to be impactful. The goal was to save a girl who had only known suffering and pain. It was a much needed light-hearted story after a fairly dark one in the Overhaul arc. Gentle and La Brava truly just took the wrong path, but I'm glad that they are getting an opportunity to change and turn things around

I think Jirou's thing is that she was caught between two loves, being a musician or a hero. Then she felt like she disappointed her parents by choosing to be a hero. Though her parents were awesome and didn't care, playing in a performance brought back the guilt she felt.

SirLagginton

I um... have to get a light novel now.

Sage

You could say the show....goes beyond

Nathan

In the fourth light novel you get to read about the full 1-b play! I wish we could see it animated though. It was fun to read not just because of the references but also it was nice seeing Monoma in his element and not just bashing 1-A.

Emma Root

Hound Dog sounds like Bakugo doing an impression of Macho Man Randy Savage.

MikeWest

In the manga, when the concert came around, they hit a bit of a roadblock, so the entire performance wasn't fully inked and got instead printed with only the scetched version of it. It gave the whole scene it's own style and, in my opionion, didn't take away from it at all. Seeing it fully animated is nonetheless a feast for the eyes and ears.

I’ve rewatched this show countless times both on my own and through reaction videos and the scene with Eri and Mirio somehow never fails to make me tear up. You’re definitely right in thinking there might be viewers who saw this arc as a filler arc but personally, it’s still my favourite arc in the anime so far. Everything about it is so satisfying and just gives out a hopeful message that I think a lot of people can find comfort in. From the themes brought up through Gentle’s story to even Jirou, I feel like there’s a lot of great ideas we can take away from.

Janelle

I'm sure you've pretty much noticed by now but the dark bird like creature was supposed to be imagery of the lingering hold that Overhaul had over Eri making her unable to be truly happy and move on. This concert being a way of breaking her from those shackles and almost beating overhaul for good at this point is such a beautiful thing. The parents in this show are also so supportive. You've said it so many times but Jiro's parents are so good and supportive. And I think the point of Jiro having that confusion is she feels like she can't really be a hero and be a musician at the same time but she's starting to realize that those professions and what you do with them can make you a hero too. For example the main chorus of the song she sang literally says "Hero too, I'll be a hero too" and things like "Strength doesn't make a hero." Which speaks to what you were saying earlier about how there was heroism done at this festival without even Gentle needing to be in the story, which I think is beautiful. I'm really excited for you to get into season 5 cause while later in the season the production value kinda dips I think there'll be plenty of thoughtful material for you to talk to. Can't wait for the coming episodes!

Skyler Anderson

yes!!!!

i_am_jam

I really enjoyed this episode when I first watched it, but I had mixed feelings about the arc in general, a lot of that was because I let myself be influenced by negative things I heard about it. Watching it again with you and really giving it a second chance made me appreciate it a lot more, and this episode becomes even better because of it. Excited for the last 2 episodes of the season, and the rest to come!

DVK

I’m so so so so excited for these next couple of episodes!

jassihere

I think the part that always gets me and makes me choke up a bit with Eri's smile is that Mirio asks if Sir is seeing it.

Alacor

Same I definitely cried happy tears and not just for Eri - but also for the students. Getting to see them all together and being kids after some of the things they’ve been through recently feels so great and it’s so rewarding to see that they’re joy brings light to others too

KTok

Don't worry, you're not the only one who shed happy tears watching Eri finally smile. Such a beautiful rewarding ending for what first seemed to be a trivial arc. I can't believe there's only two episodes of season 4 left and boi, those two episodes, especially 25, are somethin!

ONE DAY CLOSER TO EPISODE 25

benj

You should rewatch the ending at the end of the season and look at every picture/frame in the ending to really understand what’s going on.

Jabez Katsak

Something nice to consider: If Nighteye really did use Foresight on Mirio right before he died, then he did indeed get to see Eri smile as Mirio wanted.

Jo

Little fun fact, MHA creator Horikoshi cried watching this episode. Testament as to how well they adapted this one.
