I think ppl forget that Inasa (wind guy who looks like M. BISON) is still a teenager and to some ppl, first impressions always make an impact on you. So I'm sure Inasa was fine with Endeavor being an asshole afterwards but shouto being an asshole made it clear to him that the Todoroki families weren't great so that made Inasa hate the todorokis.

Project Pachia

Yeah mha is really good at recalling important or even little details that become important later on in the story. Horikoshi did a really good job when he created this masterpiece

Baron Salt

I was actually really surprised when they brought Todoroki's issues back like that, coz I had just assumed that that part was done after the sports festival, kinda how Iida has been on an upward trajectory after the Stain incident. But I love that he's still struggling and has setbacks sometimes, it feels more real and when he does have moments of growth, it feels more earned than if he'd gotten over it immediately. Todoroki's storyline has been really captivating for me.

Gang Orca's henchmen are so cute! Cheering on their boss and coming to help when he's in a bind lol

Also, your talk about opening/intro scenes and songs got me thinking. Honestly, I think you should trust your gut on what intros/openings to watch continuously rather than just let us say which is the most spoiler filled. I think it depends on what you want out of the experience. Like for example, the opening for To Your Eternity is very spoiler filled with direct imagery, but it also has a lot of symbolism behind it and adds an extra layer to the show. I would almost say some spoiler filled openings enhance shows, depending on what you like in a story It's very interesting how openings/intros have to ride the line between being too much and too little, and how sometimes leaning far in one direction actually helps.

I'm commenting a new comment for this so it hopefully gets seen! I just watched 3 episodes when I only planned to watch 1 after this reaction. Episode 61 (episode after the next one) has a really good end credits scene and imo it's very important for a specific character Side note: I think 61 might be my new favorite of the show

Nick

Endeavor is one of my favourite characters, he's so much more nuanced and while he has many negative traits, it's what makes him interesting!

This episode actually came at a phenomenal time, as I feel like your commentary here ties in spectacularly with my question for your August Q&A. 🙂

Eh just one of the many people who see endeavor for what he is a horrible person who doesn’t deserve what he has who strong armed his way to the top with a total lack of compassion. Don’t worry yoarashi everyone gets theirs in due time 🙃

DrowsyCody

"what if bakugo failed? That'd be weird" yes its super weird since he did so much o.o

TWO. MORE. EPISODES.

Uh...well... um... The job is not just the job, but also the ideal. A TRUE WORKER SHOULD DO HIS WORK WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE

Alex G

Chairman: “thanks for all your hard work” Alex: “Wish I could say the same about you” whatttttttt? That chairman/announcer worked extra hard since they were understaffed, so hard he was ridiculously exhausted AND still kept working after that until the job was done lol. Hardest working man alive over here and ya just can’t help but criticize lol

That's interesting. For some reason the manga version you're describing sounds cooler and also presents a clearer theme. Someone like Endeavor just wouldn't have time to sign every autograph or acknowledge every fan (neither would All Might if we're being real). And I can imagine how tiny and insignificant it would be as a child who worships Endeavor to come across him in real life and realize how tiny and insignificant you are in comparison to this towering fire hero celebrity. That could so easily become resentment. And that resentment could also become desperation to somehow end up on Endeavors radar. That's the quick cure to feelings of insignificance.

Alex G

Later on the "I was always someone who could find a way to like anything" intro to that flashback stood out to me a lot more. I'm still not entirely sure how to connect with that to be honest, but I think it is clear that his contact with Endeavor in some sense exposed some false beliefs he was leaning on. "I'm the kind of person who always is X" would probably do that to him.

Alex G

The anime makes a lot bigger deal out of the autograph by showing endeavor actually smack it out of his hand. But the manga simply shows the aftermath and I always took it as simply endeavor kept walking forward and inasa obviously had to move out of the way from the walking fire man and fell down. Really the point was the way endeavor carried himself and the vibe he gave off from his eyes. It doesn’t really have anything to do with not getting an autograph.

Lol I'm probably all over the place and crossing all sorts of contradictory lines at the same time. It's tough to keep it straight because hero here applies to way more elements than usual. It's a set of values but in this world it's a job and a legal classification. A set of values (that are lived): This is the most important aspect of heroism to me and what I usually connect with in these shows. But this does not depend at all on the legal classification. One can be heroic without actually technically being a hero. The job: This is going to have to be based on objective measures of success or failure, or as close to that as possible. As such it seems one of the best ways is minimizing harm caused by people with malicious intent and natural disasters. This doesn't require the values above necessarily, although it would certainly be great if it was both at once. The legal title: This is sort of the weirdest one and I'm waiting to see where this goes in the show. Who gets to decide what the criteria are and who watches the watchmen? Having the legal designation of "hero" does not make one "heroic" in the values sense NOR does it mean they get the job done. When it comes to Endeavor and Inasa, it seems to me that he is conflating some of the various aspects and thinking that Endeavor will possess good lived values because he has the legal title and because he is extremely adept at saving people. And to me this is directly relevant to real-life where we project all sorts of qualities onto people that we like because of the position they hold. But one's title, position, celebrity, etc. do not necessarily mean that that is the person to look for as a source of inspiration in all ways. And it also means allowing people we admire to be the flawed humans they are, and to not necessarily let that detract from the ways in which they are ACTUALLY great.

Alex G

Yoarashi is pretty petty with his grudge against todoroki and enderver. How as I understand it the root of his issues is he views himself as someone positive about everything. So being angry at endever ate at him because he couldn't make himself like something. Then he saw Todoroki as a way to correct his feelings and for Todoroki to provide a path to fix himself. But Todoroki gave him the cold shoulder also. Which settled his mind view that the something wrong with him was their fault.

Sage

I know exactly what happens and yet the cliffhanger ending was still super stressful lol

Emma Root

lol, just realized from your commentary how much emotional labor is required to be a hero ( in a strict "The Managed Heart" sense, not the loose way people use the term in social media). Where I think you're disagreeing with the show is: Is hero just a job that anyone qualified can do or it is a social role that must be embodied with sincerity full-heartedly? You seem to be in the first camp while most of the characters are in the second.

Caio Miranda

I love that you also call him M-Bison

Jacob Keyser
