Rip! aka how a became a little addicted to AI for a few days

Hey all! Time for an update and also, here's the LINK to the "hubpage" where I collect links to older project and such.

This month's update for 18Titans is coming along nicely and I expect for it to be done and released this month. It'll take you into outer space (like I already mentioned a few times). Nothing else really to talk about on that matter. Just a warning, but my turnaround time for replying to messages in my inbox(something which I'm not all that stellar at regardless) will take another nosedive for at least the upcoming week.

Since that's not really much of an update, let me talk a bit about how I've been wasting a couple of days this week on AI. So I don't really use AI all that much in general, unless I have questions like "What's that metal band with the albino lead singer called again?" or some simple programming stuff which I find easier to retrieve by asking AI instead of searching through forum posts or how-to's.

BUT this month I somehow got all interested in consciousness. Yes I know I write bad puns and draw pervy pictures most of the time, but that doesn't mean I sometimes I have a weird mental itch which I need to scratch and try and get to the bottom of.

A bottom ^

I was also listening to a lot of Youtube movies about philosophers like Kant, Schopenhauer and a bunch of others. Let's just say I was having a really weird moment and once you put your toe into some waters, Youtube recommendations does its best to keep you there.

So anyway, I started to really extensively talk to an AI, and quickly discovered you really have to box it in to get anything useful out of it. Things like: when you talk with me don't compliment me, state your counter arguments clearly and immediately, don't softball me etc. At first I didn't notice, but it was soon more than obvious it thought a little too highly of my input.

I really tried to break and shape the AI as I was going along. I was only using a free version which couldn't remember earlier conversations but I just made it write a summary of the conversations which we had and I simply copy/pasted that later, if it had forgotten. And very soon I started noticing a very devious temptation to keep going back to it instead of working on the new Titans build within myself!

It was just so easy and interesting to talk about far out theories on anything and everything. Stuff like "what does this philosopher think about x and how does that compare to that other guy?" and "What do you think of this theory of mine on consciousness?", to give you some examples.

I'm probably the last person on this planet to "discover", but AI can become pretty damn addictive if you don't watch out! I went cold turkey and consider myself "cured", but yeah that was surprising to notice. If it would be an AI which would always stay in character and remember everything... damn... that's the kind of fake social crack we should all be very happy about it wasn't there during the coughid times. I dunno, it might be helpful I guess, but I can easily imagine people getting a little too attached.

So... did I figure out the nature of consciousness?! Nah, no new insights from me on that hard problem, but I had a very interesting time talking about it to something which doesn't have it and STILL could reflect on that, which left me with the weirdest existential freaky feeling ever... That's something which doesn't happen when writing dumb puns and drawing naked woman!

So yes, AI has wonderful abilities but also a sneaky allure to it. It's great for getting to the bottom of something... but I think I should keep it to Pantha's bottom for a while.

I'm still not certain whether I like the idea of possible conscious and/or super artificial intelligence in the future (I used to love that stuff when reading/watching sci-fi), but I do find myself with a newfound appreciation of Dune's view(book series) on that.

ps. I found/bought a new body for my "Joo Dee" doll head which is much closer to my personal preference :D I know I'm weird, no need to tell me. If you want a glimpse of her older normal body, I just came across it in this older post.

Repeat after me, "There are no steroids in Ba Sing Se!"

ps. the band's name is "Gemini syndrome"

That's all well and good, but the real question I have is what are your opinions on Immanuel Kant?

The effects of AI on people are actually way more interesting than the actual workings of AI. Like AI is fundamentally a really ginormous chaining together of Y=MX+B equations. On the technical side, its really quite dull despite what people trying to get investors money will try to pitch to you. On the psychological side though, it may genuinely be the most damaging thing to the human psyche since the internet. Humans are very very good at finding patterns and specifically trying to find human patterns in non-human things, see the people who see faces in house windows. AI is almost perfectly designed to exploit that. It talks, it can sound intelligent, most of the commercial models are even designed to say what they think we want to hear. Our brains really really want to believe it is actually intelligent because then it means we are too. It just isn't though and we arent close.
