Well, the results are in and continuing development right through to the end of November won by a landslide! Not having to waste time putting together a playable build allows us to keep on developing and will provide a better experience in the long run. The process of creating a build costs us a lot of time every month (closing loops, bug-hunting, editing again), and being able to hold that off saves us a chunk of time and allows us to develop a more engaging introduction to Book 3!
We’re still working on long-term plans and putting in coding building-blocks, but we’ve finally begun adding in the visual content. The artist hit me with character idles and background art today that knocked my socks off, so I’m feeling hella inspired and trying to come up with all kinds of new directions and gameplay. We try to stick to schedule over inspiration (it’s a fickle mistress after all), but when it strikes, that’s when crazy things happen. The artist slaps me for my wild design choices and says “get your shit together”, and the ensuing compromise creates that magical combination of fun and realistically possible. I can’t tell you how many mini-games I’ve been working on that defy the software, but one day, one of those will make it in, and it’ll be my crowning achievement. And while everyone is saying “I guess this is neat, but it’s needlessly complicated”, I’ll be yelling “I TOLD YOU IT WAS POSSIBLE”. To a wall, probably.
Anyway…. each book and route are intended to be their own game (the goal being 4+ books x 2 routes = 8+ large, individually playable games), so we’re weighing what should remain familiar and what should be new, in order to be thematically consistent but remain compellingly fresh. Book 2 was a complete opposite to Book 1 (and we learned tons from it), but Book 3 will more likely be a middle ground between them — exploring elements of simplicity and complexity in more balanced measure.
Now, for some exciting news….
Even though a large November release won, there are a good number of comments asking for a sneak preview of Toph, so we’ll likely do that in November as we get a little closer to the release!
Thank you for voting and helping us make this crazy thing. Good stuff is in the works!
Cheers,
-MITY

2017-10-26 09:16:50 +0000 UTCI was kinda sad not to get any Ember Island adventure or pregnant trio of Fire Nation girls, along the slave route I mean.

2017-10-24 19:07:37 +0000 UTCYou should really narrow your releases even further and devote more time to development. One in the middle to show progress and then a final build. You could get more content out faster and concentrate on gameplay rather than bughunting etc.
