The Pit - WorkDoc

The Palaestra

David reached the palaestra, where wrestlers trained and tested their strength. The lanista, both owner and trainer, reluctantly agreed to let him compete in the games, though David’s overconfidence clearly irritated him. To teach him a lesson, he arranged a freefight against Max, the local champion—a towering, formidable fighter. As the match began, it quickly became clear that David was in serious trouble.

The market and gymnasium environments were built using the Kasbah Fortress and Grand Bazar Collection Bundle. You can upload the panoramic rendering (ThePit_WD11) to an online 360° viewer to explore the scene.

The road to Kazhaban

The story begins with our hero on the road to Kazhaban, an ancient trade hub where caravans and cutthroats meet, and where the infamous annual pit fights draw crowds from across the realm. It’s the final day to enrol in the preliminaries, the first step toward glory in the citadel’s arena, under the watchful eyes of the city’s rich and powerful.

David, the hero of our story, is in a hurry — he still hasn’t secured his permit to fight, and in his frantic dash, he nearly blasts an unsuspecting merchant on his Tetracovine off the road with his battered old Skyracer.

The merchant, furious and shaken, hurls every curse from hell after the vanishing Skyracer. He’s certain it’s one of those brash young prizefighters, and the thought of the boy being torn apart by this year’s champion brings him a bitter kind of satisfaction. An ominous sign of things to come…

Right from the opening scene, you get the feel I’m going for: a Retro-Tech-Medieval world with hints of alien life and classic sci-fi. It’s the perfect playground to experiment and make the most of whatever’s at hand.

Time to start a new project, and here’s the idea I’ve been developing for this adventure.

In the heart of the sun-scorched desert lies Kazhaban, a city of stone and sand, ancient walls rising like sentinels against the relentless heat. Its streets twist and turn, crowded with merchants hawking exotic wares, wanderers from distant lands, and creatures of every imaginable form. The air is thick with the scent of spices, smoke, and the dust of countless footsteps. Here, fortunes are made and lost in a single day, and whispers of wealth and betrayal mingle in the marketplace like the wind across the dunes.

Once a year, the city trembles with a different kind of energy. The pit fights have arrived. Brutal, unforgiving contests that draw the strongest warriors from across the realm. They come for gold, for glory, for the roar of the crowd and the chance to carve their names into legend. The pit is a place of blood and fire, where strength alone is never enough—and cunning and speed can turn the smallest contender into a hero.

Among the combatants is David. Blond hair perpetually tousled, pale skin marked by years of training, short but wiry and strong. Quick as a desert fox, clever and unafraid, he has spent his youth chasing the dream of the pit, learning to turn every weakness into an advantage. Cheerful and optimistic, he carries a fearless determination that draws people in—and earns their respect.

But David’s arrival in Kazhaban comes too late to secure a favourable draw. For the preliminaries, he is thrown into the arena against the city’s reigning champion—a giant of a man, nearly seven feet tall, whose shadow alone seems to swallow the crowd. Murmurs ripple through the stands as David moves into position. And then the fight begins.

He dances. He dodges. He strikes. Speed against strength, agility against brute force. The crowd watches in astonishment as David holds his ground, weaving between massive blows, exploiting every opening. Against all odds, he survives the preliminaries—and earns his place in the games.

Yet fate is not done with him. Instead of remaining rivals, David and the giant are paired together. In the pit, they move as one, a perfect storm of power and precision. Outside the arena, their bond deepens, forged in shared danger and mutual respect. Trust blooms into loyalty, and loyalty into something far more personal—a connection that neither expected, but neither can deny.

The city watches. The desert waits. And in the heat, the dust, and the roar of the crowd, a legend begins.

Well, I think there’s plenty of material to set the stage for an exhilarating new journey.
