I've decided to remove the background windows so that the focus can be centered on the characters.
Actually, I feel that the composition of the screenshot version best captures the feeling I want to convey. Isn't it interesting? It's the same image, but different parts of the screenshot evoke different feelings.

I mean yes, tasty spicy art but also I'm just sitting here really admiring the little details - the bits of blue in neuvillette's sleeve, the gorgeous smooth gradient shift from pink-purple to blue, the shading of Neuvillette's pinky knuckle in particular ...
