Finally figured it out.
Added 2017-12-28 10:34:13 +0000 UTCI've been trying to figure out a certain kind of process for a long time, and yesterday I finally cracked it.
I'd seen things like this before, where dark areas maintained a rich, saturated colour, but lighter areas became pale and didn't have a lot of colour.
The image on the left is the original. After applying the technique, I get the middle result which is... not quite right. After a quick tweak, I get the one on the right, which has this beautifully pale look, but still has colour where it counts.
I'm going to do some more of this soon. You guys will see it first. ^_^
