2025-06-09 01:15:46 +0000 UTCThis is not nearly as dramatic as the Russian story, but IIRC the Mughal Emperor Humayun died after falling down the stairs while carrying a bunch of books, and the court had an imam who resembled him impersonate him for public appearances until his son Akbar was back in town and able to succeed him. Temporary body double things like that probably happened a lot in hereditary monarchies.

2025-06-08 14:33:45 +0000 UTCI think another interesting thing about body doubles in movies with conspiracy theories etc is how much Q people rely on the idea that things are “hidden in plain sight” via movies and media. They already think Hollywood has been infiltrated and is sending us all these coded messages about various nefarious deeds, so why wouldn’t they take concepts from film and media and overlay it onto real life with no thought whatsoever? The matrix and its influence on the modern right alone is astonishing, im sure so much of film and tv from the last 30+ years is irreparably baked into the psyche of millions to the point they can barely distinguish media from real life. I think you could definitely argue that since the rise of social media our identities just ARE irreparably linked to media in a way that is unprecedented generally, in harmful ways that we have yet to even come close to discovering. Great stuff loved the episode.
