"Well... this is awkward."
I shifted uncomfortably, sat across from the ever-serious Saber. Her gaze was yet to falter, transfixed on mine. When it was not, she was checking on her Master, Shirou Emiya. The ginger youth lay on a futon, all cleaned up and fully healed thanks to Rin Tohsaka.
The easy rise and fall of his chest brought relief. His breathing, no longer laboured, made me feel a little less guilty about what I'd done. Still, I was half a mind to just run back home. Sabe...

When Rin came stomping through the school yard all red-faced, I realised that the staff, whoever was responsible for bringing her my message, had quite possibly not delivered it in secret, and that... everyone ended up hearing what was meant only for her.
Now, it was just a question of which of the three explanations I gave to the adorable stuttering mess of the teacher actually got through. I'd certainly been... creative. At the same time, I wasn't sure the small woman even understood ...

A/N: SOMEONE HELP SABER PLEASE! HE'S NOT SIMPING!

"I ask of you, why attack my master?"
Those were the unreasonable words the newly summoned Saber chose to use as we stood across from one another. And, admittedly, for a slight moment, they did manage to confuse me. After all, I really had no reason to go after the confused boy she was protecting. Even if he was a Master, targeting one outright was strictly forbidden by the rules.
"Because I'm a Master too. And, we're...

From the first moment I laid eyes on him, I had known something was off with that ginger boy wearing the stupid uniform Rin hid me from. My suspicions were now confirmed fully. My 'curtain' was a basic one meant to distort the vision of those not of our world, but it was also designed to outright ignore those OF our world.
If he noticed the commotion, and came closer to observe, he was a magus... not a very good one judging by the ostensibly snail-like pace he was running through the st...

It took almost all I had to keep myself from breaking out in laughter when faced with Rin’s comical misunderstanding. She wasn’t stupid either, not even gullible or easily convinced, no, she was opposite all those things… Yet, somehow, she missed something so obvious I may as well have slapped her across the face with it.
Maybe such a trait came with being a genius… but no, that just couldn’t be. I was also a genius so I’d know.
Ah well, that was a thought for another ...

Much like many of her peers, Rin Tohsaka was content to take a wait-and-see approach towards the war within her city. That was to say, heading in blind to a conflict was an idiot’s approach. Heading in blind when magi, each with their own heroic spirit, were brought into the equation needed a clinically recorded mental defect.
Thankfully, her servant, rude as he tended to be at times, was more than happy to comply when she proposed that they scout the city. As a servant of the Archer ...

Admittedly, I spent a little too long just playing Tekken with Nobunaga the next day. Well into the afternoon actually, but in my defense, the score was a little too close for comfort. We were tied even. No victory was delectable unless it was by landslide. She shared that sentiment entirely, so it was even harder to put down the controller.
The only reason I'd ever even gotten up was to get some snacks… only to realise that the Sun had almost set in that time. I promptly steeled my h...

As a teacher and a member of the Twelve Lords, it was a trifling time for the Lord El-Melloi II, but that felt a lot more natural now than it had when Waver had first agreed to Reines' demands of him and taken up the mantle of his late teacher, the Lord El-Melloi of the time.
Since then, it had been one headache after the other. Waver was no longer certain if he could even blame anyone other than himself for them either. After all, no one had ordered him to take in the more troublesome ...

I had to admit, it was daring of Rin to perform the ritual without a catalyst and then expect to summon a strong servant just because it was her doing the ritual. The confidence reminded me of someone. I really wondered who. She even summoned a servant of the Archer-class, a sassy guy who just about looked done with life entirely.
How envious.
Nobunaga was many things, but, good at snark, she was not. In fact, her response to most insults was pulling out the nine and blasting the ...

The Tohsaka family mansion was decidedly depressing, even for the dwelling of an aged lineage of magi. Most others I’d had the pleasure of visiting often employed dozens of servants for every menial need and chore, living decadently, and engrossed in nothing but their research like a bunch of peculiar university students.
Rin’s home was not the same.
It didn’t feel lived in at all.
Past the double doors, there was a lonely shoe-rack with only two pairs of shoes, and du...

Noble Phantasms, those powerful armaments wielded by humanity’s heroes. Those people feared and revered by the masses, who had made names for themselves by accomplishing that which was impossible throughout the ages.
They were also the greatest Mystery.
Stabilised by the belief of those very masses, given strength by man’s incredible capacity for imagination. Those heroes, and the weapons they wielded, were, in a way, man’s collective delusions in the modern day and age.

Sprawled on the front-most pew, I held the gaze of the priest that had interrupted my fight with an, admittedly cool, heroic spirit. He’d once again began reading his holy book with little regard for what I did, and from then, it had been a sort of silent competition.
No doubt one of those power plays where t...

From that moment onwards, I intended to keep my word. The opening blow was the only blow either of them were landing tonight. My magic circuits surged to life, greedily scarfing down any and all ambient mana.
The enemy was a servant of a knight class. I had no intention of underestimating him.
By the way he scoffed and leaned forward, he seemed to think the same.
I'd already lost interest in Bazett. She possessed nothing of value. No, I decided to avoid her entirely. She was...

The servant's mouth curved into a grin, his eyes shimmered, and he wrenched the spear free. I ignored him entirely. Instead, I slowly reached for his master's face. He was smart enough to grab the woman by an arm and jump away just in time to avoid an explosion of bright-red flames.
He stopped under a lamp post a good ten meters or so away from me before finally letting go of Bazett. To her credit, she remained largely unfazed, even brushing some dust off her coat as she rai...

That night, I didn't need Nobunaga to come barging into my room with a gun in hand and drag me out for fun by force. I was already prepared. No, that was wrong. I'd gone a step above just being 'prepared'.

Come morning, I found my target leaving her humble mansion around the same time as before. She looked one way, then the other, cautious and attentive, before slowly turning to pull the heavy iron gate shut.
I took that time to pop up behind her with my trademarked disarming smile, guaranteed to not get me kicked in the face. It hadn't worked last time, but they did say the second time was the charm… or was it the third? Eh, it mattered little, I was him. It'd work.

Unbothered, the stranger sat down beside me, leaving a single seat empty between us and made a gesture towards the owner. I watched him with barely concealed amusement. He did the very same, not backing down a single inch.
His easy disregard, his intense gaze, and the callous grin. It was all very familiar for some reason.
In the end, I broke the little 'contest' with a chuckle, "You're very full of yourself, aren't you?"
"I find it laughable you, of all people, would say th...

Sunk into my luxury double-bed, I stared at the ceiling lifelessly, ignoring the six or so locks on the door beside me and the constant thud that told me some kind of abomination was struggling against them.
After the previous night's fiasco, it had become a necessity. Not only was I supremely loyal enough to my Luvia to ignore even Nobunaga when she walked around naked 'cause clothes were too constricting', I just really wasn't into children. That was really all there was to it. That w...

Magi were a negligible number among the human order. That was what I was always told by my teachers, my Professor, and my peers. Yet, everywhere I went, I managed to find at least one new magus. I held no qualms about this. No, I loved it. Every single one of us had an eccentric way of being. I enjoyed provoking them and even just watching them, to a certain extent.
Meeting Rin was akin to a godsend for my boredom. I’d locked Caren in the basement after she tried sneaking in my bed th...

So far as being a magus went, Rin Tohsaka didn’t think she particularly stood out compared to the rest of her peers.
Like most of them, she maintained a perfect image in the world outside, as an amiable yet firm and proper lady befitting her standing. She even went to high school, and had people that called her a ‘friend’, no matter how infuriating that was at times. Diligently, she strived to protect that image.
Like most of them, she took to researching and furtherin...

Mark, the lazy and sly son of a bitch that he was, apparently had never moved out of the first Church I'd met him all that time ago. When I entered, he was standing under the gaze of the Virgin Mary in the stained glass above the podium, staring up with his hands behind his back.
"Hark-"
"Ah, I see you've brought your own child this time." The priest smiled neutrally, adjusting his monocle with a hand. "Oh no, wait, that's the one I lent you. What? Have you grown tired of her?"

After bidding farewell to my Professor, I settled into a leisurely pace as I made my way through Norwich proper. Only, there was nothing interesting to see. My peers avoided me like a plague the moment they noticed me, and I’d grown accustomed to the bizarre way in which one side seemed like a medieval recreation, all slanted and decrepit and the other was proper modern architecture, those marvels of architecture that really just amounted to big blocks made of brick.
Somehow, through ...

"You think these guys are innocents?"
I pointed a thumb at the dead Leandra, well and truly flabbergasted by the expression on my Professor's face. It was the face of a hero when he was trying to stop a heroine from being overly brutal, reform her, then have her fall head-over-heels in love with him.
Was he gay?
I shivered and wrenched my hands free from his, dissipating the attempt at Hollow Purple. I'd only whipped it out because the moment and environment were convenient....

People had many faces, not willingly, not unwittingly. Everyone had different ways of talking to different people, acquaintances, friends, and even those they hated. Everyone then had different ways they were known by all those different people.
Among magi, where such casual aspects of life often directly influenced the nature of certain mysteries, those faces held a lot more credence. They were easily noticeable more often than not.
Yet, to Waver, and all those who had come to kn...

“I didn’t pay much attention before but… Henry, you changed something about my vessel. I don’t think even the Archer Class is supposed to have the Independent Action Skill at this rank.” Nobunaga stared at me from across the dining car, straddling a chair as she tilted her head. Maybe that was why he had so many wrinkles on his face-
