Jake’s story about early COVID reminds me of Ep 3 of The Last of Us. Nick Offerman’s character, Bill, is an analog of an early infowars listener. Going so far as calling the military “globalists” as he’s hiding from them. Bill is a caricature in the show but his doomsday prepping and conspiracy brain allows him to survive, thrive, and live happily ever after. Idk what the message is there. Some paranoia is okay?

I would like to send a message to Julian. I hear his fatigue. He has hinted at his "ras-le-bol" with the podcast a couple times recently. I want to say how much I like him, how much I would miss him if he stopped. But I would also understand if ever the unthinkable happened. This stuff has the potential to really wear you down. Julian. I would eat that burnt bread - just cut off the worst of the burnt bits. It’s almost impossible to make food completely inedible. Just saying.

Thinking of the future and whether we'll look back on now like you look back on 2018, I can't imagine this getting better. And I think one factor could be people outside conspiracy circles not giving a crap and "letting it rip" like the freaking Barrington Declaration with COVID. It's so frustrating: my generally liberal dad (I considered just saying "parent," but nah, you probably knew it, so I'll confirm that yes, he's an old cis white guy) only seems to see people as stupid and not stupid, and so, with all the conspiracy theories bubbling up into the mainstream, he thinks it's demonstrating how /most people/ are stupid, and /irredeemably/ so. What a bleak viewpoint -- and of course not true. He's also big on IQ stuff and how people really aren't born equal because some people aren't smart that's straying a bit too close to racism and eugenics these days. So . . . irony? I don't know. I'm sad.

I don’t follow this stuff nearly as closely as you do, but I related to the discussion at the end about how to tell people that you study QAnon but don’t *believe* in QAnon. I was in grad school doing some research on online disinformation in 2019, which is how I found you guys. One day my kid had a friend over and I heard her telling her friend “Mom’s really into QAnon!” 😂😂
