Episode 217: QAnon's Movie Obsession
Added 2023-02-01 05:03:45 +0000 UTCWhite Squall, The Matrix, Alice in Wonderland, The Godfather 3, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Hunt for Red October... We explore how QAnon's obsession with movies can be explained by philosopher Theodor Adorno's theory on the commodification of popular culture and right wing propaganda.

The "Adrenochrome was in this movie which means it's real!" reminds me of when people say Star Trek and similar francises "predicted" certain tech from today. Couldn't be that the shows and movies inspired engineers and influenced what we collectively imagine future tech to be? No? Okay.

2023-08-06 14:50:47 +0000 UTCJake, you should've watched Everything Everywhere At Once instead. It is sad, funny, profound, and ridiculous.

2023-02-21 20:06:33 +0000 UTCTV, not movies, but can we PLEASE get an X Files episode? That series had aliens, operation paperclip, a shadowy "cabal," microchips in vaccines, government mind control through electronic devices, gmo hysteria, AND cryptids!

2023-02-07 07:35:28 +0000 UTCThe only problem with You Were Never Really Here as a QAnon tome is that it's actually a good movie with substance, depth, and nuance. All things that no one within or adjacent to any QAnon/right wing orbit could understand or relate to. Oh and Joe, the main character, isn't an unbeatable alpha male. He is troubled and fallible. They would hate him. But outside of that, it is a great movie.

2023-02-06 18:09:04 +0000 UTCIf I were to offer any Mel Gibson film to suggest doing an episode on, it'd be Apocalypto. Like most of his films it's both a blast and fucking insane, filled with all sorts of things worth picking over from the viewpoint of him being a hardcore Catholic and some of the things he's said about it.

2023-02-06 15:20:38 +0000 UTCTo yβallβs point about how there are actually good movies that anons could draw from- I just saw You Were Never Really Here and this is a perfect example of a great movie with content that should, in theory, get eaten up by the pilled masses.

2023-02-06 00:45:08 +0000 UTCFunny you should mention Mel Gibson, he once did an episode of Joe Rogan that was just an hour long infomercial for a Mexican stem cell clinic. https://open.spotify.com/episode/1MZEjzmQRpHYhExwzbVr11?si=-mxkHhmGSqyI-jxmaH7lJA

2023-02-04 08:37:22 +0000 UTCWhen they started talking about dumbed down/cheap entertainment, Iβm just waiting for chat AI type tech where musicians put in a description for a song and full sheet music, lyrics, etc all pops out.
