Translating from the warp into real-space on the far side of the local star, the fleet utilized the radiating mass of the star to conceal themselves from the tau's planetary detector grids and random patrols. They waited for two days before launching the attack when Nol'Yeth was at its closest to the star, having timed the invasion for just this moment.
The tau were struggling to comprehend what they detected when a tidal wave of torpedoes slammed into their unshielded ships still in orbit and were still taking in the vast armies for the next Sphere of Expansion into their holds. Shuttles full of supplies and transports full of troops scrambled in every direction, turning their perfect formations that allowed smooth transactions into a incoherent swarm of bees. The few warships that managed to bring their shields up caused several of these shuttles and transports to smash straight into them, the pilots having desperately wanted to find safety within the berths of their destinations.
Forty percent of the tau fleet were annihilated before they had a chance to weigh anchor. The rest had their shields up and turned to face the Imperial invaders. But the torpedoes continued to arrive, wave after wave, and the Imperials were still fresh for combat, void shields up and weapons hot.
