Enlightenment and Catnip

Unsure if any have seen the comments but I had a discussion with a commentator of a topic that made me curious. Much of the discussion moved to my DeviantArt and we talked about the idea of the Venom Symbiote's spreading to form other Symbiotes like Carnage, and Carnage and Toxin, and somewhat Anti-Venom.
So it made me wonder, does anyone reading this know how Carnage came to be? Did Venom chop a bit of itself off? Did a standard mitosis occur or something? Anything? Trying to look it up, it's always vague about how Venom simply left a piece of itself behind or something along that line. And that piece attached to Cletus Kasady and into an open wound that gave Carnage his distinctive blood red appearance. Even with Carnage and Toxin, it merely said "reproduce" without explaining how. Let me know if anyone can explain what, how, and why such a reproduction occurs.
Also, with Bat Venom in mind, does anyone think a good Catwoman Symbiote name would be Catnip?

This continuity thing is so difficult to follow. I guess the heroic Flash Thompson and Toxin are probably the best examples of good Symbiotes.

2018-01-03 15:35:59 +0000 UTCOh, there was an event not too long ago that revealed that the symbiots come from a peaceful planet and that what corrupted it was Deadpool and Spider-Man. It was fixed too for a time before returning to Eddie Brock and being back to the original. All that growth for nothing. Damn you Marvel. XD
