State of the Collective - Thoughts going forwards
I wanted to share some thoughts going forward for the Collective now that the move is completed. The main thing I'd like to talk about are the Galleries.
It's becoming an issue having the Archive and the New Forum Gallery overall. The shift to the new server means we need, I feel, to move towards a better Gallery overall.
At this point I would appreciate any ideas of suitable software packages we could be considering.
My plan, at least my intentions, is to install a new Gallery, move the entirety of the Archive onto it, then move everything in the New Gallery as well to this solution, whatever that well may be.
Further to this thought, I am considering opening the Archive such that registration is not needed to view, but is to comment. It's an ongoing issue that people are registering and things aren't working well in that process.
To anyone with a thought about this, please keep in mind that we are talking about a Gallery that will contain something near to 80,000 images and something like 50 GB of files. That continues to grow every day and I will not be surprised if in the next few years that goes over 100,000.
We likely won't be able to move comments, which i'm not happy about, but we'll see. Whatever the solution is, it's going have to be able to handle a massive database, a lot of comments and users.
I'm unsure of where that is, we well likely may have to come up with our own solution for this, but if we can avoid that, it might be for the best.
Thank you all for supporting your Collective...
