I've watched this movie for the third time now and I cry every single time. It has such a basic message but somehow it gets me. It's all played out so beautiful and envokes such an absurd feeling. Like. Yes nothing matters, but also nothing matters. As someone who has been struggling with depression and suicidality for a while, it's always just nice to hear that ;-; So thanks for the reaction and the honesty!! (don't let anybody tell you you are an ugly crier btw)

I don't know what you mean by you being an ugly crier, you're actually really aesthetic when you cry, lmao, not to be weird-- I'M an ugly crier so i know the difference. and like others have said, we love to see what makes you laugh and cry or what makes you angry. It's all part of being a person and we like getting to know you a bit more this way. 💜 Also don't worry if you can't say much when you're sucked in-- you have a very expressive face! Waymond's literally the perfect husband/dad. I see him, and am like: "Yup, he could fix me!" Perfect casting for him, I agree. I cried like the whole last 45 minutes lol. Ke Huy Quan's got the sweetest face and voice, and audience members can just feel like he's hugging us constantly and like he just loves us unconditionally even though he doesn't know us, lol. His aura and mannerisms are just perfect. Hope you and Dreyfus are feeling good 💜

This is just what I needed, a good laugh, confusion moments, a good cry and then the "awww" moments. It was such a ride that the commentary needed to be minimal...does that make sense? An Experience! also, the only reason i'm a little bummed jamie lee won the oscar is because i think stephanie hsu's performance is much more deserving of it, she fucking killed this performance

Not to say I defend the decision (I'm largely ambivalent about all Oscar decisions because at the end of the day, they're just awards), but if the issue is screentime, the Academy has given out this award to Beatrice Straight before, who was onscreen for a total of five minutes and had one scene partner.

When I watched this in theaters the first time, I was with a friend and we both were crying so hard by the end of it that we had migraines. We got Wendy’s afterwards to try and make ourselves feel better but this movie hurts as a momma’s child.

As an Asian guy, I love how Waymond's character subverts the trope of Asian men being softer/not masculine enough = making them weak. In so many movies, Asian men are usually portrayed through a traditionally feminizing lens of being physically less adept, more emotional, not being alpha male-types and saying they're weaker because of it. Here, Alpha Waymond is presented as being the "perfect" Waymond -- but he's constantly brusque, inconsiderate, and more than once gives up on Evelyn. CEO Waymond is financially successful, is self-sufficient, and has everything but he's still unhappy deep inside. In contrast, real-life Waymond is initially seen by Evelyn as weak and naive. But he sticks by Evelyn even after he gets hurt and it's his method of being kind that eventually succeeds and saves the world.

Love to THEE Angela Bassett and Jamie Lee, but Stephanie Hsu should have gotten that fucking Oscar for playing Joy/Jobu, period. She aaaatteeeeee. Also, Waymond is really the heart of this movie. What a light. And I do think depression is a theme of the film for sure among other things. I like the use of Joy being a person but also something of a metaphor for the emotion that both she and Evelyn have lost, and through the film, we get to watch Evelyn get her Joy back in both her daughter and feeling, and see Joy heal a little through that as well. She gets back to herself a bit. There is so much cultural, and artistic symbolism in this movie. It's really something. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

Don't worry, I also don't like showing emotions a lot. I don't like to cry. But during the Waymond scene, that also broke me because he's reminded me so much of my dad. My dad was also one of those 'too sweet' people and always seen as weak and naive. But I think that's his strength, his kindness. He had always did his best to be kind, and I believe that that he did his best even during his last moments.
