Prologue

The Kingdom of Sansrival is a multi-racial nation with power in the southern part of the continent.

The humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, beastfolk, dragonkin, demons, etc.……All of these races are called and addressed as “people(Hito) (人)”, “beings(Ningen) (人間)”, and “the living(Jinrui) (人類)”, and nominally, it is said to be a country where all races can live as equals.

It’s not that there was no discrimination present between races in this land, of course. But, while the more populous humans had a greater say, there was no country on the continent with less discrimination between races than the Kingdom of Sansrival.

The Kingdom of Sansrival was also known for its another name – the “land of adventurers”.

The Kingdom of Sansrival was founded in the uninhabitable wilderness and had a history of exterminating monsters and expanding “The Living” sphere, “the living” which not only comprised ‘humanity’, but also other sentient races as a whole. Because of this, the Adventurers’ Guild main headquarters was also located here, with branches all over the continent and a large number of talented adventurers at their disposal.

In the southwestern part of the Kingdom of Sansrival, there was a rocky desert known as the Wilderness of Death.

It was once believed that this barren wilderness, infested with powerful demons and impossible to explore, led directly to the end of the world.

About 150 years ago, a group of adventurers led by Jana Kellano discovered a large forest far to the southwest of the said wilderness.

There were rich forest resources, fertile soil, and vicious demons crawling and teeming in the forest.

The forest was then named “Jana’s Forest,” after its discoverer, and after the rumors of its resources began to spread, naturally, many adventurers started to take an interest in exploring the place.

Eventually, the human traffic had built a road, an encampment, then it developed into a village, then a town. Finally, about fifty years after discovering the Jana’s Forest, which became “Jana Forest” in the passing time, a splendid city was then established.

The Kingdom of Sansrival sent a nobleman to unite the adventurers in the said city, which came to be known later as Meilgrad.

It was Baron Desmond Sarris.

Baron Desmond Sarris worked with the local adventurers and contributed significantly to the development of this new city.

In recognition of his achievements, Desmond was promoted Count of this frontier, and the area around the Jana Forest, with Meilgrad at its center, became his own territory.

But Jana Forest is huge.

It’s been almost 100 years since Meilgrad was established, but it’s said that the “people”, into which all races were involved, have only explored less than 1% of the entire land.

Therefore, there were still plenty of business opportunities lying around the place.

That is, if you don’t mind the risk.

New species of plants and animals were getting discovered every year in the forests of Jana, and these new resources were always in high prices in the market.

This motivated many adventurers and merchants to search for unspoiled places to investigate and explore. And today was no exception.

Today, another group was surveying the said forest.

Where they were was still an untouched area, but it had been confirmed that strong C-rank demons were sighted to appear there.

The group was led by a beautiful woman dressed in silver and white armor. Her long silver hair, carelessly tied up in a bun, rustled in the gentle forest breeze as she walked along a pathless ‘trail’ into the wilderness.

She was wearing a gorgeous gray dress with a large opening at the chest, shoulder straps covering her neck and shoulders, a breastplate protecting her chest and abdomen, a corset-like clothing protecting her waist, metal mid-boots on her feet, and thick tights covering her mid-thighs.

She was not wearing a helmet but had a golden tiara on her head instead, which at first glance seemed to be a bit uneasy in terms of protection, if not mobility.

However, the clothes she wore were made of rare monster materials that provided more protection than they looked.

At first glance, they looked like they are made of decorative cloth or leather, but in actuality, they boast a defensive power even superior to ordinary metal armor.

As for why, this ‘armor’ was enchanted with a special magic of protection. This meant that even the parts of her body that were not being covered by the clothing would also become impervious from external attacks in the same way as if they are protected in metal armor, as long as the enchantment wasn’t worn off or disrupted.

For example, even if she gets attacked on her head, which looked defenseless and open at the moment, or on her bosom, which exposed her ample cleavage, the enchantment would take effect and repel the attacks.

The woman walking in the front hasn’t noticed just yet, but there was something disturbing about the men’s movements following her.

But not all of them seemed to be planning something, as some of them were still wondering whether they should tell the woman in the lead about the disturbing movements. Still, they couldn’t move freely because they were worried about the intimidating presence of the man in light armor walking in their tail.

In the midst of the walking, the man in leather armor, who was right behind the woman in silver and white armor, took out a scroll from his pocket.

When it was unfolded, a thick sheet of paper with geometric patterns was revealed on its surface.

The man in leather armor with the geometric patterned paper then picked up his pace and approached the woman in silver armor, who kept walking without noticing the movement behind her. The man with the scroll then turned his head to the man in robes walking behind him.

The other met his gaze and nodded.

As if it was the signal, the man in leather armor placed the paper in his hand on the woman’s back.

“……?”

When the woman realized that she had been touched, even though it was through her armor, she tried to turn around, but it was then when the pattern on the paper on her back flashed with intense light.

The woman fell down on the spot immediately afterward.

“What are you……doing……?”

Although she has fallen, the woman was still conscious and even barely managed to twist her head around to look back.

Oddly, the man who has touched her back had also fallen to the ground.

The man was already not breathing.

In addition to him, there were also four other men in leather armor, for a total of five people lying on the ground.

The man in the robe and the man in the light armor were still standing, and as for the remaining three in leather armor, one was standing nonchalantly. As for the other two in leather armors that were still alive, they looked at the robed man and the man in light armor with a scowl despite having a hard time comprehending the sudden situation.

On the woman’s scream, the man in the robe squatted a little and picked up a piece of paper that had fallen then waved it to her, who is now on the ground.

It was the piece of paper with a geometric pattern on it.

The paper the man in the robe was holding flashed into particles of light and disappeared after he showed it to her.

“You……! Are you out of your minds!? Are you even aware that you are tarnishing the name of the Count of Colborne by doing this!”

“What if I told you that it is by the orders of Count Colborne?”

To the shout of the woman in female armor, the remaining man in leather armor replied, also while brushing the blood from his dagger.

“Well now……”

The man in leather armor then crouched down beside the woman and reached out to her body, which was lying on its front with only its neck raised.

A hand slowly approached and touched the base of the woman’s leg.

“Damn……don’t touch me there, you lowlife…….”

Ignoring the woman’s words, the man in the leather armor put his other hand on the woman’s shoulder.
