Chapter 3 - Checking the Skills

The next morning, Yoichi finished his breakfast and immediately checked his skills. This could be confirmed by applying [Appraisal] to himself.

[Appraisal+]

The user can draw information from the “Information Archive” about any object in sight or within a set range (default value: 100-meter radius) centered on the user.

Can detect any concealment skill and be used without being noticed by the opponent. Supports search and reverse lookup.

Search appraisals can be performed on imagined words and proper nouns. Appraisal results and history can be saved (an unlimited number of appraisals can be saved). You can view the latest information about the saved appraisal results at any time.

Yoichi was able to confirm that the effect was clearly better than the first one given to him. The “+” after the name of the skill indicates that it was upgraded with the power of the blessing. In the case of the effective range, it doesn’t matter if you are not within a radius of 100 meters anymore; as long as you can see it, the distance won’t matter. Other than that, Yoichi also got curious about the search and reverse lookup. He tried searching for his phone, which is not in his sight right now.

An arrow appeared in his field of vision, indicating the location of the target, and at the same time, the smartphone’s specs were displayed.

Yoichi followed the arrow and found out that it was pointing to the inside of his bag.

Next, he applied [Appraisal+] to the building outside the window, which was probably at least a kilometer away, and was able to see the building’s name, owner, and tenant information.

The default value of the setting range was apparently 100 meters in radius, but it seems that he could change the range if he wishes to.

He continued to max out the range, and after a while, a symbol of “∞” appeared.

(not good. I think I’ll set it back to 1OO meters for now. The other thing I’m interested in is……)

Information Archive.

It contains all the knowledge from the past to the present.

(I’m not sure what it means, but it’s probably something like the Akashic Records?)

(Basically, it can contain anything, can’t it?).

And so, Yoichi tried [Appraisal+] with the words and proper nouns he had imagined in his mind.

(For example, The Assassination of John F. Kennedy……Wow, it really came out!)

The information that the U.S. government may be hiding is now displayed in a series of paragraphs before him. However, after reading through it, Yoichi regretted a little that he should not take a peek at state secrets so easily.

After getting his bearings back, Yoichi then proceeded to check the next skill.

[Infinite Storage+]

The user can insert and remove items within a 10-meter radius around the user into and out of the other space. As a general rule, the objects are stored in a state where time has stopped, but you can set the time to elapse arbitrarily for each object (but time cannot go backward).

Stored items must be inanimate objects and things without sentience (corpses and collected plants are allowed).

There is also a Dismantling option when storing a carcass of a beast or demon.

There is a maintenance function to maintain and repair the stored items to their best condition (rebuilding defective items and restoring consumables are not allowed).

In principle, there is no limit to the volume or weight of stored items.

It seems that upon storing, the performance of this item will be improved by a lot.

As a test, Yoichi stowed the shoulder bag that was sitting on the side table.

The original area of effect was supposed to be within a one-meter radius, and there was no option for time lapse.

The shoulder bag disappeared from in front of his eyes, but he could see that it was still in the [Infinite Storage+].

Now, he took out the shoulder bag.

Understands all languages at the native language level.

Also covers reading and writing.

The user can also consciously change the language used.

There doesn’t seem to be any particular change in this, but since there’s a “+” after the name, there may be some minor changes in the specifications. To test it, Yoichi tried to check an English site for smartphones.

Yoichi came out from the hospital room, and luckily, a male nurse was passing by, so he called out to him.

“Can I use my smartphone here?”

Instantly move to your home point from any location under any circumstances. Once the home point is changed, it cannot be changed until after midnight the next day. After returning to the home point, you can return to the original location within one hour. Up to five home points can be set up.

New home points can only be set up or changed locally. The status of the area around the home point can be checked from a remote location.

The number of home points that can be installed has been increased from one to five, and the time required to change them again has been reduced from 10 days to no less than 24 hours.

Yoichi decided to verify this skill once again after he gets home.

This covers all skills in the “standard skill set,” but there is still another skill displayed in his appraisal window.

This is a blessing that was granted when the administrator restored the damage to the target’s body.

It keeps the body and mind in top condition.

It makes you more resistant to injuries, illnesses, and abnormalities and also speeds up your recovery.

After reading the skill, Yoichi felt that everything that had gone wrong over his years had finally gotten better.

Plus, there was a possibility that he would be transferred to a brothel if he selected the previous place he recently stayed.

Though there is no way he could confirm that yet, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Also, Yoichi felt like walking because his body was light, and he felt good.

After arriving home, Yoichi fell asleep in a daze, remembering what he had done with Rina at that night.

He kept waking up and going back to sleep, a cycle that repeated until it was almost evening.

He had just been discharged from the hospital, so there was no doubt that he should rest, but he regretted being too lazy.

Now that he knew that the accident was not a dream, there was no need to dare to confirm Todou’s existence, but he thought it was some kind of fate that they died together there, so Yoichi decided to head to the funeral of his cross-over friend.

“I’m sorry, but asking for their personal information is……”

When I looked around for a way to confirm the address, I found the name “Yoichi Todou” among the information boards and other equipment that were being put away.

There may be many “Yoichi Todou” people in this world, but he must be the only “Yoichi Todou” who was held a funeral here today.

After leaving the funeral home, Yoichi went to a convenience store to buy an incense envelope and a light ink brush pen and prepared the incense while drinking coffee at the eatery.

When he took out the money from the envelope given to him by the shipping company, he found that it was all crisp bills, fresh from the bank. After creasing the bills and putting them in the envelope, he drank the rest of his coffee and left the convenience store.

Unfortunately for Yoichi, it was difficult to prepare a suit and tie considering his situation’s urgency. Still, as the work clothes he was wearing now were like a uniform in itself, it would not pose a problem in formalities.

By the way, the factory where Yoichi works doesn’t have a uniform, so as long as he wears a jacket or shirt that looks like work clothes, there’ll be no problem. As proof, Yoichi is wearing a quilted down coat he bought at the home improvement store over the light gray work clothes that he usually wore.

Yoichi thought as he bought the work clothes that they would be convenient for all kinds of TPOs, as they could be worn in everyday life without being criticized by others, and could also be worn in public places without gathering suspicion.

Of course, this set of clothes are the type that he would never wear on a date with his girlfriend, but that’s not a problem for Yoichi, a break-even man in his mid-thirties who hasn’t had a girlfriend for the past ten years.

After a short journey, Yoichi finally arrived at his destination address.

What came to his face seems to be a detached house with a garden. It was not that big, but it should be sufficient enough for a family to live in.
