Nightwing latex tutorial

Welcome back to another tutorial, this time sharing details on my Nightwing suit.

Bear in mind, this was made including mask and weapons in three days!

I tried my best to keep a record on the making progress :)

Here goes!...

Started off drafting pattern with my own measurements, Here I used tracing paper to trace logo to the back..

Cut out all the pieces, this helps latex give shape.

Now gluing pieces with the help of tracing paper, so I can see seams precisely.

Inserted zip- Check previous tutorials explaining this.

Any curved seams i.e sleeves, I use a cello tape roll which helps stretch out seams while gluing.

Inserting legs to leotard to form the suit can be tricky and takes a bit of time...

First glue the crotch together, then glue leg panels (front and back) to the leotard, till you meet up in the middle (the crotch seam)

Now work your way down the inner leg.

Does time some time sealing the whole side seams in one, but doing it in stages helps. Don't rush it.

I glued sleeves first then torso and finally legs, making sure the seams are not wonky. I use a sheet of paper over latex that has glue on it, this help it not sticking together when trying do seams.

Cut out three circles, one each for armpits and third one for crotch, this helps any stress on the suit, glue inside.

Cutting out 1 cm strips for details. Measuring lines and distance apart, making sure it's all equal. Using a white gel pens to gently map out, make sure you clean all pen lines before finishing suit completely!

Inserted mini flash lights in PVC piping, wrapped blue cello around the clear tube so the light shines through, Then wrapped tape around sticks.

And BREATH, the cosplay is done and in time for comic con! Who would like to see me do Nightwing red suit? or a leotard for something different...

I hope you found this somewhat interesting, or just like watching it unfold :)

Have a great day my loves!

Thank you very much ^_^

This is great! Question: How does the tracing paper help in the glue step exactly?

Jerikandra

Thank you so much!

PurpleMuffinz

1 cm is the best allowance :)

PurpleMuffinz

Quick question, what's your usual seam allowance for the pieces?

Skotti Kimble

Love that you show how to make an outfit. Love your detail and craft. You rock

This is awesome! You are incredibly talented

Hehe! Workout with Muffinz vol 1 😆

PurpleMuffinz

More specifically we like watching it fold (and glue) up together :) Nice. Next we'll need a workout routine though as I'm certainly the wrong shape for that outfit currently

Aww bless you! Thank you so much ❤

I thought you were awesome already, now reading this I think you are even more awesome. You got it done in 3 days, so much work goes into it. I am in awe of you. 😍😍

I always take care of my pieces, I have had for years with no problems!

PurpleMuffinz

As long as you take care of it :)

PurpleMuffinz

It's built to last!

PurpleMuffinz

I don't know much about working with latex so I was wondering, once you've glued the outfit etc, how long would you expect an outfit like this to last?
