I've hit a standstill with the handheld laser video since I'm still waiting on snow here. I still think it's worth holding out for snow since the visual effects are just so good, but of course there's a chance it just doesn't happen. I'm really in no hurry to post the vid though so I guess I'll take my chances.
In the meantime I acquired this 24,000 watt halogen incandescent light bulb. As far as I can tell, this is the highest power bulb of its type that has been in commercial production. Bigger custom incandescents have been made, but 24kW is the highest for a standard part that I can find.
My initial intentions for it were just a short vid on the side channel, but I've quickly gotten carried away with it. My breakers won't allow the startup current (2000 amps!!) so I had to build a huge dimmer for it that I'll test later today. There's a chance the dimmer will just explode though lol. Now I'm wondering about doing things like cooking food and torching stuff with it. I guess I'll just aimlessly mess around with it in between working on other things and hope some sort of usable video comes from it.
