i don't even need to score it to break the top of the glass off, just pointing the laser above the liquid line will do that. that's a good idea to try cutting or at least breaking glass under water though

2025-01-16 19:15:39 +0000 UTCpointing it at the cap punches a hole through it, but pointing it below the cap but above the liquid line causes the glass top of the bottle to pop off. i don't even need to score it, it just breaks off on its own with the laser pointing in one spot

2025-01-16 19:14:25 +0000 UTCIf you get a diamond glass cutter from the store for like $3 and pre-score a line around the glass, will it follow the line better or still explode? How about try to cut a piece of glass under water? Does the water vaporize? You can cut glass with scissors underwater, thats why I ask. Maybe it will have some weird effects. Dang that is bright though wow... oof.

2025-01-16 09:21:31 +0000 UTCIt's cool how in the slowmo you can see the reflection of the laser starting to move and change as the glass is melting before it explodes. I'd be curious to see it at 100 000 FPs

2025-01-15 18:43:46 +0000 UTCSooo what happens if you focus just on the bottle cap? Or, score a line across the neck and hit it with the beam. Might just crack it and off the top comes. Either way this is a wicked amout of energy on the bottle. Good experiments.

2025-01-15 18:23:13 +0000 UTCDoesn't look like a cut. Looks like a pressure explosion due to absorbing heat that cannot be transferred between molecules fast enough. I wish there were more references on photonic heat transfer. I have an experiment of similar focus on a catalyst in open air-water and am not sure if I am generating hydrogen (hissing indicative of pressure) that instantly reforms into water vapor with the oxygen it just split from or if its just vaporizing water that condenses fast. I am certain I am generating significant watts of photonic power that is not being absorbed by the water or the catalyst.

2025-01-15 17:48:58 +0000 UTCit melts a spot of glass and the sharp thermal gradient around it causes the bottle to shatter

2025-01-15 17:44:53 +0000 UTCWow. Did it seem like the laser did more to cut the glass, or heat the contents? Or a little of both?
