I rebuilt the handheld laser using a single one of the newest arrays and I'm quite happy with the results. I was able to clean up a bunch of the stuff that was hanging on the outside and now it looks sooo much better than it did the first attempt. Without the clanky optical mounts on front, there is less that can fail on it now. Hopefully this one holds up for the video!
Output power is around 250W. It's not the 400W I planned for, but it is brighter than the original design. The color on this is a more visible sky blue as opposed to the deep blue that is common with big blue lasers. I added a variable PWM circuit to it and the sound it makes when hitting stuff is surprisingly loud. The PWM should also make for some cool visual effects on camera too.
I'm going to slowly film experiments with this while working on some other projects in the meantime. My dream shot for this project is to use it in a heavy snowfall at night. I'm hoping the weather will comply at some point soon for that!
