Nighthawkinlight has a video on using a microwave to create synthetic rubies, I wonder what would happen if you repeated it with much more power.

2024-09-02 07:41:10 +0000 UTCApparently Pyrex in Europe is still made from borosilicate glass. It seems that Pyrex in the US is made from tempered soda-lime glass, which is more durable than regular glass under temperature fluctuations but not as heat-resistant as borosilicate glass. I guess that in this world EU pyrex can escape to the US and US pyrex can escape to Europe 😂

2024-09-01 06:44:16 +0000 UTCFun Fact: The orange hue comes from the sodium boiling out of the glass, it may crystalize and crack later. NileBlue had that problem.

2024-08-31 21:26:44 +0000 UTCPyrex does not like sudden uneven heat - I have had two explode when I put them, cold, in a preheated conventional oven and they touched the hot rails.
