change of plans

I started attempting some of the chemical formulary experiments but ran into some failures. I'm sure I'll be able to make some of them succeed by tweaking the recipes, but in the meantime, I got distracted by the newest high power laser diode arrays on the market. My last giant handheld blue laser was 100W, and the new arrays can be pushed to 200W. However, I don't want to stop there. I want to splice the beams from two of these arrays together to make an absurd 400W handheld blue laser. It's a stretch, but I think I can do it, and I've already begun ordering parts. Stay tuned!

If 100w can open a beer bottle... what can 400w open?

400W Let's GO!!!

Oooh, this sounds like fun! Let me know if you need a big phosphor crystal to hit with it.

Gems of Science

Go Drake! You may need a backpack of batteries to power this optical experiment. Can it melt drones yet?

IR diode arrays are practically flashlights compared to these blue arrays, and even corrective optics can't tame the beam from those very much. However, IR diode arrays are useful for efficiently pumping fiber lasers, and a monster portable fiber laser is something I'd like to do.

I brought this up to you a while back but IR diode bar arrays now reach 2.5kW on AliExpress. With enough optics, you can have a handheld continuous laser.

This is very interesting!
