fun with directed energy
Added 2023-12-06 19:10:11 +0000 UTCI apologize for the lack of updates, I've been spending way too much time in the forest recently. I have gotten a good start on the next video though, and today I finally received the lenses I needed to build a telescope for the 2kW fiber laser I've mentioned earlier. The expanding lenses here are rated for a whopping megawatt per square centimeter, so they should be able to hold up to the insane power of this laser. I'm hoping to pull off some distant shots with the system. To top it off, I'm building a tower (from a kit) right outside of my lab so I have a better vantage point for shooting the laser. I'm hoping to have the video finished around the end of the month. Stay tuned!

how thrilling. i only encountered your vids 1.5 months ago. at the time i knew naught about lasers, other than they have them in star wars. i was so intrigued by what i saw tried to emulate you. now i have 3 lasers on my bench. 1 is a gatling green pointer, and the others are a .5w lo 620nm and a 2w lo 445nm. i made the drivers using lm317t as per your video from 13 years ago. it was jolly helpful, thank you. i use 2 watt 3 ohm resistors with my lm317. i made a little resistor holder, using some ic sockets. and i have soldered 2 and 3 resistors together, to a bit of dupont wire. as 1 resistor results in 400ma of power, or about .5w of LO it is all beautifully simple. the 2 resistors on dupont wire give me 800 ma, or 1w lo. 3 give me about 1200 or 1.5 LO. if i use both of them, with a bit of voltage knob care, i can get 2w lo. i use 2 bench supplies, 1 for for red and one for blue. i got an x-cube from ebay. i have been trying to emulate your white laser beam but it is, tbh, a bit of a bugger. the red and green are single, but the 445 is MM. how can i better align the beams?
