more battery fun
Added 2023-08-24 15:40:10 +0000 UTCi've done a bunch of experiments with the battery bank the past week. the backyard scientist and allen pan stopped by and made an appearance in the vid too which was pretty fun. my biggest issues now have been related to the giant magnetic field tearing apart my setups, but I seem to have solved that by bolting everything to a big wood board. i still worry the cables are going to rip themselves off the batteries though.
i ended up detonating my fuse bank when i had a giant bolt conduct 45kA for over a second, and it sounded like a gunshot when it popped. I upgraded the fuses to even bigger ones, but this means the batteries are being quite abused at this point. i still have a bunch more things i want to try, but i need to start finishing up so i can make other videos lol.
the last pic shows what my cameras look like when i bring them outside after being in a AC cooled building. the humidity has been absurd the past few days, in fact yesterday was our most humid day in history! it's delightful wearing a full welding suit in these conditions. stay tuned!

Another approach that is actually baackyard-feasible is one I saw at the MIT nat. magnet lab , namely a large flywheel that operated as a generator after being spun up.
