vacuum tube insanity

i used the new meter to take some measurements and I found that I was driving the grid way too hard in my setup. fixing this brought on a whole new set of issues, but the performance is unbelievable when parts of it aren't exploding off. it feels like i'm operating a plasma weapon.

an unfortunate part about vacuum tube tesla coils is that they are a hard sell when it comes to making videos that people will be interested in. this thing already is one of the most impressive things I've built, and I still have a lot to improve on it. that being said, i'm not confident in being able to make a good video about it unless I break some records. i think i'm going to hold off trying to beat a record with this setup, and then use it in part of a vid instead. maybe i'll make a vid about dispelling a bunch of electrical myths as this would be quite useful for that. later on i'll get a bigger tube and try to build a world record tesla coil from it.

in the meantime, i'm going to try fixing the new issues with the setup. i'm getting lots of arc overs in multiple places due to the high drive voltages required after my modifications. it's honestly terrifying to operate, but it's absolutely incredible.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if you started doing vttc videos full time ;). Such an awesome topic.

Requis the Great

The drive circuit certainly looks awesome. It's like something from back-to-the-future. Personally I think tesla coils are neat but they've been done to death. Not really remarkable anymore unless you use it to *do* something. Edit: Can you use a laser to ionize air and guide the lightning bolt? That would be incredible.
