Change of Pace
Added 2016-10-29 13:58:46 +0000 UTCHey everybody! First off thank you to everyone who has decided to stick around even with my lack of content lately. It won't be long til you will be seeing a LOT more stuff from me...I still haven't cashed out what you guys have donated, and will be putting that money to a lot of cool stuff here soon!
I dropped out of grad school. :o They are letting me come back next year if I choose to come back, but for the time being I need a little time off to reconsider things. Don't get me wrong the place is great and my classmates were awesome, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for another 4-7 years of constant grind in academia. I learned a ton these past two months, but I wasn't working with my hands...and I need to be doing that constantly to be happy.
For the time being I'll go back to work in residential construction, and maybe try to find a job as a chemist nearby. And of course, there is going to be a lot more lasers and fire. The ruby laser is 95% finished, just need to get my lamps in the mail. I'm building a giant temp regulated crystal grower, and also have almost everything I need for the explosively pumped lasers. A second attempt at the chemical flashlight is in order too. I may even post some pyrotechnics videos and see if anybody is interested.
Thank you again for all of the support! You'll be seeing a lot more of me soon!!

2016-11-01 03:26:46 +0000 UTCAny deliberate choice is the right one, but here I was feeling jealous of you for getting to do an optics PhD. One of the best things I got out of the grad school experience was the other grad students (with whom I stayed lifelong friends), but so many years flew by in the process. Carry on!
