Hidden Details: A Reason for Treason

Welcome to the one-hundredth-and-forty-fifth episode of the Hidden Details blog!

Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".

Link to the comic for your convenience

Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!

There is ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, ONE crewmate and ONE obscure retro character. Bonus panels don't count.

1: Joker's phone has a little Phantom Thieves logo on hte back. He cares about his brand, Zach.
2:
Mr. Dark (the main villain of the first Rayman game) appears in a painting in the first panel.
3:
Gaibon and Slogra are once again teaming up, just like they did in Super Castlevania IV (and in the Netflix series as well)! A little nod to them as a boss fight, UnSaxon51.
4:
"Search your feelings, you know it to be true" is indeed a Darth Vader quote, Zanreo. It felt fitting, since they're both villains.
5:
Sephiroth uses examples of ways the heroes have thwarted the villains which correspond to the villains visible in the third panel: Bowser got thrown in lava by Mario, Donkey Kong sunk King K. Rool's island and Link has sealed Ganondorf away multiple times. Good catch, CSDX!
6:
This week's loss is visible in Chaos' white spots in the sixth panel. This is also one of the first times no one has found loss!
7:
In the final few panels, there's a flag bearing a pear visible in Sephiroth's army. This is a reference to the overdone joke about him saying "let me bring you dis pear", but I couldn't resist, Cameron Devera.
8:
He is, Spirit of Gotham! Balthazar is visible right beneath Joker in the first panel, suggesting he went with them to Sephiroth's subconscious.
9:
While all of Twitter was drawing amogus crying eyes, I was drawing amogus Ganondorf headdress jewels, Trigger!
10:
A timeless classic: Villager being a villain, as indicated by his presence in the third panel. Good catch, VisionPlayer22
11:
R.O.B. is ready to thrown hands in the fourth panel. Well, throw lasers, technically. The display on his chest says "lasers charging...", as pointed out by Generic Hero.
12:
Yep, I'll just keep counting it: the JoJo "To Be Continued" arrow keeps appearing, Joshua Eddleston.

PSA: not every enemy in the army is a hidden detail

All the details that haven't been found are written in italic.

Hidden Details: A Reason for Treason

Comments

Also found Balthazar, on the first panel, he's peeking out from the bottom of the screen under joker's elbow.

Nathaniel Mailhiot

found the crewmate! On the third panel, with all the villains debating which side they're on, the crewmate is in the central jewel on Ganon's headpiece.

Nathaniel Mailhiot

Would Starman count as a detail because he's supposed to be in the assist trophy tent in the backyard? Also why can't we see him to Sephiroth'sright in the zoomed out picture?

Calvin Barbanell

Villager peeking in on the 4th panel implying he's one of the villains.

Muwaffaq Al-Khodairi

there's a necromorph but no isaac

snek

Yeah, but he kinda sees meaning in being a mid boss. There was an entire arc in Pirates Curse bout it.

PineappleApoc

I don't know if it counts but Snake's portrait in the final panel now depicts him as "missing". Perhaps Byleth will find a way to get him out of there?

RedViolet69

Ah yes, the return of Condor, the corn-hoarding asshole who left Smash House's most epic bromance on ice last year

Foxdoc

Well I mean Kingdom Hearts

A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends

I feel like everyone got all of them so I feel like I need to mention that ROB hasn't appeared in a comic for a while. Good to see them

A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends

Pyra joined the invasion of Sephiroth’s mind specifically so she could have another go at forward-smashing his skull.

Jon Brouse

Squid Baron from Shantae is in the army (weird b/c he and Shantae are pals)

Pokedude14

It feels weird seeing Maleficent is this comic, I wouldn’t say she’s a hidden detail but she’s the last character I expected to be in Sephiroth’s video game army

Shelby Kinkead

if Im not mistaken, Balthazar is on the first panel, just below Joker's elbow

Miguel Espinosa

Joker has a little Phantom Thieves decal on his phone.

Zach

The lines Sephiroth says in the 4th panel relate to the villains the respective speech bubble hovers over. Bowser was dropped in lava numerous times in the Super Mario series(namely Super Mario Bros 1), K. Rool had his island sunk by Donkey Kong, and Ganondorf was sealed away by Link & Zelda in Ocarina of Time.

CSDX

I don’t know if this counts, but I have an idea as to why Meta Knight betrayed everyone - is it because he’s still bitter about Pit being revived with floor ice cream instead of the potion he fought so hard to obtain?

Strengthening Weakener

This may not be a detail, but I love how Sephiroth quotes Darth Vader: “Search your feelings, you know it to be true!”

Artlover95

Minor detail, but I like how each "poof" for the infiltration team is color-coded.

Lord Circe

The JoJo 'To Be Continued' arrow is still there, as per tradition by this point

Joshua Eddleston

The flying monster carrying the bird thing with a spear are Gaibon and Slogra from Castlevania. Even when following Sephiroth they still like to team up together.

UnSaxon51

"Search your feelings, you know it to be true" ok then Darth Vader

Zanreo

Bonus panels don’t count

Cameron Devera

Read the PSA.

Cameron Devera

I just want to know why the AC villager is on the villian's panel. Also, Koopa Troopa, Goomba, slime, Space invader, zombie from Plants vs. Zombies, Chaos from Sonic Adventure, Lady demetrescue, wendgo from Til Dawn(?). Thats all i can name off the top of my head.

Tim Vinson

When trying to convince the villains, villager is at the bottom because everyone knows the killager is the scariest of all

VisionPlayer22

Hey hey it's your favorite salesman since 1983

aswomeshop

Spamton g spamton

aswomeshop

One of the villains standing next to the Koopa Troopa is a turtle, an enemy from the Jazz the Jackrabbit PC games. This is a surprisingly obscure reference to a PC game from the late 90’s.

Eric W. Jones

Boss from Omori is part of Sephiroth’s army.

Karelia Cristina

Cloud is dressed up as Laxus from Fairy Tail

Seth Howell

ROB's chest reads "Lasers Charging..." IMMA FIRIN a pretty mediocre neutral special tbh

Generic Hero

Ganondorf's forehead jewel is looking somewhat sussy.

Trigger

Balthazar is still on the Palace Infiltration Team!

Spirit of Gotham

Dibs on Dis-Pear flag in the 5th-final panel!

Cameron Devera
