Hidden Details: Cat Surprise

Welcome to the one-hundredth-and-forty-second episode of the Hidden Details blog!

Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".

Link to the comic for your convenience

Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!

There is ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, ONE crewmate and TWO obscure retro characters. Bonus panels don't count.

1: Toteman pointed out the little yellow Pikmin sprout in the yard in the first panel, right behind Morgana.
2:
Incineroar gives Pyra some attitude after she's surprised that Morgana can talk. I can't blame him, Tejayes.
3:
The first retro character in this comic is Nathan Graves from Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. He appears as a little drawing on the closet in the third panel.
4:
Someone made a little Fidough drawing as well, right under Nathan. Do you like the drawing, Zach?
5:
Fun fact, VisionPlayer22: I had no idea Morgana doesn't like to be called a cat. His initial dialogue in the third panel was "I can do more than talk, you know".
6: I
f you zoom in on the letter Ryuji is reading, you'll notice it says the exact same thing that he's saying. Consistensy, Daniel Myhre, consistensy!
7:
If you look closely at the envelope Ryuji is holding in the fourth panel, you can see the seal on the letter that was sent to the Phantom Thieves has the Crest of Flames, hinting at "B"'s identity... Good eyes, Generic Hero!
8:
Yes, thanks for pointing that out, Jon Brouse! Pichu actually wears a Focus Band in one of his alternate costumes, so this isn't just something I made up!
9:
There's a little blue Pikmin chilling in the potted plant in panel fifth panel, but The Human found him/her/them!
10:
In the fifth panel, Pichu looks pissed. I was going for a "I thought I lost this, but it was HERE all this time?!"-look, Michael Ederer!
11:
I'll count it, but to be honest... I can't remember why I changed Ryuji's "ZOMG" shirt to WTF in the fifth panel, Spirit of Gotham.
12:
No you're right Trigger, Loss is in Zorro's belt in the sixth panel. It's indeed partially obstructed by the purple magic plant thing. Mistake on my part, sorry!
13:
Yeah okay that's technically two Balthazars, Cendrail. But I count two identical Balthazars as one. He's on Zorro's buttons in the sixth panel!
14:
Morgana heals 997 HP to revive Joker, indicating that he indeed had 1/999 HP left. Wait, shouldn't it have been 998 HP then?
15:
The second obscure retro character in this comic is, fittingly, the protagonist of Persona 1. There's a portrait of him in the seventh panel, as pointed out by edmg7.
16:
Ah yes, classic (and very high quality) jokes Sugma, Ligma and Candice made their way into this comic as book titles in the seventh panel, as pointed out by A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends. I think I was a bit tired while drawing this.
17:
Good catch, Lukas Wandler! The Smash house is apparently in possession of a double Arm Cannon Samus amiibo, which is worth a lot. It's on the nightstand behind Ryuji in the seventh panel.
18:
I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention Futaba's crewmate blood splatter in the seventh panel, Tommy Galvin!
19:
The background in the final panel changes to the stylish red-and-black from the Persona 5 visual style. Also, Incineroar suddenly seems to hear Persona 5 music, in this case classified as acid jazz. Whether it's the battle theme or something else I'll leave up to your interpretation, Fighting Master.
20:
And lastly, I have once again stolen the "To Be Continued" arrow from JoJo, as pointed out by Cameron Devera.

When I get back from my break, I'll reveal all the details that haven't been found. These ones are written in italic.

Hidden Details: Cat Surprise

Comments

I’m not sure if I’m correct but I think I found loss..? On panel 6 on the belt of the thing behind Morgana…

Songbird Sing

When Pyra exclaims that Morgana can talk, it's Incineroar who says, "Wow, imagine that." Because talking cat Pokemon.

Tejayes

I think it's Balthazar the rabbit

Fruitsquish

I don't think it's a legality conflict for the first three Persona games per-say, but I do believe there's some other big reason why they can't port, remaster, or reference these games...

N-Sight

The cape fasteners on Zorro's outfit have Asriel Dreemur on them; one is his boss form, the other is his child form.

fictionfan0

Someone already pointed out the Fidough image on the cabinet in panel 3, but who is the blue-haired, fire-emblem-esque character that's drawn above Fidough?

N-Sight

Well that's too bad, I may have never played the first two persona games, but it would still be cool to see the old games get more love than just dlc outfits and songs.

D A

Thanks for the info.

Toteman

Also, they look for the oldest post finding the detail. In this format that is above you, not below.

PineappleApoc

Well, it could also be Life Will Change, Blooming Villain, Rivers in the Desert, I Believe, etc.

edmg7

Oh, thanks, i didn't know, i'm new to patreon

Toteman

Pretty sure there are legal conflicts keeping Atlus from doing stuff with the first 2 Persona games.

edmg7

You know it's 1 detail per person right?

edmg7

Rare dual arm cannon Samus amiibo on the shelf in panel 7!

Unstuckduc

There is a portrait of the first persona protagonist, who by the way the persona series should represent more.

D A

Samus amiibo (with two arm cannons for some reason) on nightstand in panel 7.

PineappleApoc

I removed this detail due to the answer below, thanks again.

Toteman

Drawing of Fidough in the third panel

Zach

The letter in panel 3 does actually read what Ryuji says in does in 4.

Pokedude14

Futaba's shirt has a crewmate on panel 7

Tommy Galvin

It seems that a line is missing, but I believe it got obscured by the magic patterns

Trigger

I see Loss in Morgana's Persona waist

Trigger

In panel 5, Pichu is clearly angry at being jipped of a chance to survive.

Tim Lockwood

A blue Pikmin is in the potted plant in Panel 5

The Human

I see the author wasn't a fan of the fourth book, Boffa.

Generic Hero

The books behind Joker are labeled Sugma Ligma and Candice I personally prefer CDs but books are ok too

A Sad Fat Dragon with No Friends

On the final panel incineroar can hear the battle theme of persona 5 last suprise

Fighting Master

And it said “ZOMG” before that

happy pasta

Ryuji's shirt changes to say WTF in panel 5

Spirit of Gotham

Naoya Toudou (the protagonist from the first Persona game) can be seen on a portrait when Joker is finished telling Isabelle how he was revived.

Karelia Cristina

Main character of the first Persona game on the picture behind Joker (panel 7).

edmg7

You say one Balthazar, but there are two of them on panel 6, the Persona is wearing them as badges or buttons, I think

Cendrail

The seal on the letter Ryuji is reading has the Crest of Flames, indicating "B" can be none other than Balth- er, Byleth!

Generic Hero

I saw that too! Was wondering if that was one!

Katie Crawford

Futaba

happy pasta

Pichu is angry at Joker having it's Focus Band (or maybe at Byleth for stealing it?)

Michael Ederer

Toteman

The Focus Band is actually used for one of Pichu’s alternate costumes, explaining why they had one besides the self-damage thing.

Jon Brouse

In the seventh panel is a samus amiibo with two cannon arms in the background, a known manufacturing mistake.

lawariano

There is a blue pikmin in panel 5 and a yellow pikmin in panel 1

Toteman

Morgana says ‘don’t call me that’ as he famously hates being called a cat

VisionPlayer22

To be continued in the final panel!

Cameron Devera
