Welcome to the eighty-seventh episode of the Hidden Details blog!
Have you found some obscure reference or detail in this comic? A JoJo reference? A sneaky little Loss? A callback to a previous comic? Let us know what you've found in the comments! Every detail that has been found will be added to the list below. Once everything has been found, this comic will officially be marked with "all details found".
Please only comment with ONE hidden detail or reference!
There ONE Loss, ONE Balthazar, and NO JoJo reference. Bonus panels don't count.
1: This comic taking place on the Cloudtop Cruise track is no coincidence, of course. I chose it because of "Cloud" in the title, but also because it seemed like a fun colour palette to use in a comic.
2: You can see Wario readying his blue shield in the third panel. Bit of foreshadowing, Daniel Myhre!
3: Haha yes, Marwan Abunura, I made Piranha Plant use another Piranha Plant while karting. It was so much fun to imagine the Smash cast in Mario Kart and come up with shenanigans like this.
4: Yep, you're right Gavin Walker. All the emblems on the karts represent the series the characters are from, even when they don't actually appear in Mario Kart.
5: In the third panel, Cloud is holding the mushroom he eventually uses to speed past Dr. Mario in the next panel. Good eye, Tejayes.
6: In the background of the fourth panel, there are a few karters visible. One is Isabelle, still rocking her Dimitrescu outfit from the previous comics. Glad you noticed, Zach.
7: Another one of the characters karting in the background is indeed Balthazar himself, Luke.
8: And the final background character is Ridley, who is WAY too big for his tiny cart. But he makes it work, just like he does in Smash. Good catch, Alex Nelson.
9: Yes, the vines/leaves form Loss in the fifth panel, Trigger! I've seen a lot of people fall for the red herring in the bookshelf, but I'm glad you're still sharp.
10: Cloud has brought his 3rd prize trophy to his therapy, as you can see in the final panel.
11: I moved the red books in the bookshelf in the sixth panel because I didn't want Loss to be in the exact same space as the previous comic in which this exact background appeared.
12: The Pikmin moved as well! He used to be inside the pot, but now he's indeed chilling on a shelf, John Hattan.
13: A poster indicates a certain E3 dinner coming up, prepared by Sephiroth and Squirtle. More foreshadowing. Gotta love it, Zanreo.
14: There's a little Brewster (the coffee pigeon from Animal Crossing) on Dr. Mario's coffee pitcher. I'll give a point to Erin who noticed it first, but thought it was an owl, and Giwrgos Gyftopoulos who correctly identified Brewster.
15: Dr. Mario is also using a cool Smash-themed mug.
16: I didn't expect anyone to notice this, but the plant in Dr. Mario's office has grown a ton since the last comic with this panel. If you don't believe me, compare them!
After one week, I'll reveal all the details that haven't been found. These ones are written in italic.
