Hidden Details: Everyone is Spirits!

This week's comic is full of callbacks to previous comics. I did that intentionally, because I consider this a sort of a mid-season break in the Everyone is Home series. Tomorrow, I'll start a "Holiday Special" in which I'll post one panel a day until 2019. All these panels will form a massive comic/poster with every single Smash Bros fighter. It's a very different approach compared to my usual schedule (and I have no idea if it's gonna be a success), so I wanted to "end" the current story-arch by making a comic about the World of Light trailer. Hence the callbacks!

The first callback to a previous comic is Kapp'n. He makes his second appearance in the Everyone is Home series. The fighters and Sakurai apparently hired him to drive them to Lake Powell. Don't ask how they all fit in his little bus. You can also see a bunch of dollar bills sticking from his pocket, which is a reference to Sakurai paying him pretty royally, just like he did in the Assistance Persistence comic.

Oh, wait, I'd almost forget to reveal Sakurai's shirt design of the week. Since this week's theme is the World of Light trailer, I decided to have Sakurai wear a shirt adorned with the Spirits logo!

I put in two little details to reconfirm that this comic (and the World of Light trailer) takes place at Lake Powell, Utah. I chose this place because it looks a lot like the location shown in the World of Light trailer:

I Googled a lot with keywords like "rocky shores lake brown stone cliffs" and Lake Powell was the best fit I could find. There's probably a place in this huge world that fits even better, but I couldn't find it. The little sign next to Alph and the travel guide that King K. Rool is holding reference the real world setting.

I also chose those characters in the first two panels based on their position in the World of Light trailer:

Fox, Mario, Link, Shulk, King K. Rool and Mega Man are standing near the front of the group, so I intentionally positioned in the same way in the comic. I also put Marth, Zelda and Pit in there since they're the ones who actually get to say something in the trailer. More on that later.

Sakurai and Kirby are holding hands, referencing Sakurai's bias towards Kirby (because he created the character), which I also used as a joke in the Super Smash Bias comic.

Pikachu is sitting on top of Sonic's head as a reference to their newfound friendship that's visible in the World of Light trailer. Sonic tries to grab Pikachu while running away from Galeem's beams (at 1:04), which the internet has interpreted as a sign of friendship and wholesomeness.

King K. Rool is once again wearing his reading glasses, which is a reference to him being a very sophisticated and intellectual crocodile, as you can see in This Game's Dinner is...

Shulk, who has the power of seeing the future provided by the Monado, can already see a hotdog, since Sakurai is about to buy 77 of them. Notice his blue future-seeing eyes.

Fox is tapping Mario on his shoulder and pointing at something in the sky. Seems like Fox already noticed Galeem and/or one of the Master Hands descending from the heavens and he's notifying Mario of the impending danger!

In case you're not into Splatoon (like me): this food truck vendor isn't some weird original design by me. It's Crusty Sean from Splatoon and Splatoon 2. Apparently, in the first game, he sold shoes. In the second game, he sells snacks from his food truck:

I found him in an article of "Top 10 Gaming Shopkeepers", haha. I thought he fit perfectly.

The dialogue between Marth, Zelda and Pit (0:26) makes an appearance in this comic, although I've altered it a bit. Someone on Reddit mentioned that Zelda basically calls out Marth for being a coward and I thought that was pretty funny. Consider this the uncensored version. Even though Marth should receive a lot of praise: his ability to count and divide is astonishing.

While I was making this comic, I FEVERISHLY searched for the identity of the Lifelight singer. For some reason, Nintendo didn't reveal her identity and nobody seemed to know who the hell was singing in the trailer. I Googled and tweeted but I couldn't find an answer. Every voice actress I asked confirmed it wasn't them. At some point, I even started getting super suspicious. I thought maybe it was Christina Vee, who voices Shantae, and they didn't want to reveal her identity because Shantae was being planned as a DLC fighter? I know, the frustration of not knowing made me a conspiracy nut.

So at some point, I decided I probably wouldn't know her identity before having to post this comic, so I decided to make Pauline (from Super Mario Odyssey) sing the song, since she's probably Nintendo's most iconic female singer:

I was almost done with the comic when dataminers revealed Abby Trott being the Lifelight singer! At first, I just wanted to replace Pauline with Abby herself, until I read that she also voices Maya Fey in the Ace Attorney series! When I read that, I decided to change Pauline into Maya Fey. I'm a pretty big Ace Attorney fan so it was nice to draw Maya as well.

I hope Abby sees this and likes "her" appearance!

And that's it! I hope you've enjoyed these little reveals, and I hope you'll all enjoy the Holiday Special posts starting tomorrow! I need to figure out if/how/when I'm going to post Hidden Detail blogs as well since this is a special occasion. Maybe I'll just write blogs about the panels revealed that week.

Cheers, and have a wonderful weekend :)
