possession (2025)
Added 2025-02-04 13:00:09 +0000 UTC
With this new narration for upstanding Patreon folks, I resisted the dangerous creative urge to make any story “improvements” and instead just focused on better audio. The music is different as well, because of the difficulty of recovering the original sources.
This version is longer not just because of slower pacing in general, but because I’ve stuck more closely to the original page text of the story and did not aggressively make small cuts to keep things tight, as I did 15 years ago (gahhh!). So we now have something a little more languorous—a bit longer than the tale justifies maybe, but even better for drifting off to sleep…
Oh, and also attached is a totally music-free edition of the story just for the purist in you.
I’ll try to keep the alternate narrations train running this year!
Music: “Blue as the Sky” by Michael Vignola, “I’m Still Weak” by Jordan Hatfield, and “First Morning” by Sero, all rights reserved.
From artist David Montano:

BONUS SHENANIGANS: If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “There’s no way I can go on in this world unless I can see what cute Pixar versions of Knifepoint Horror characters would look like,” take this extremely fancy trivia quiz created by friend of the podcast Parrot-in-Human-Suit. (I actually got #12 wrong, and very nearly blew a second one.)

Okay, back to work on a story for March—a pure first-person dose of traditional suspense this time.

THANK YOU for this one. This is one of my faves that you've written.

I love how you talk about the pace being slower in this recording, where the protagonist is grievously wounded with a sword 1:40 into a 2 hour story. I get it, I get it.

Coincidentally I watched that clip again about 4 days ago when Lost Highway popped up on... Pluto I think? Super eerie.

Oh yeah, that hum was quite mysterious. In the end I gave in to it as a kind of... sacrifice?

Soren this is a clip of Robert Blake being COMPLETELY HORRIFYING in Lost Highway. Enjoy, everyone. https://youtu.be/qZowK0NAvig?si=ZHjCTnxZ46Ecr7yv

Just did the little quiz. I missed a few answers but it still said I got everything right. Best quiz ever!
P.S. the little Pixar villains were pretty cute

Possession is so real to me as someone who has suffered from depression throughout my life. Love this rerecording which I’ve been listening to in pieces before falling asleep at night. Also, I got 14/15 on the quiz, not bad!

Love Dev! When it comes to creepy though, the guy who always brings it is Caleb Landry Jones, the maniacal brother in Get Out!

Who do you all think should play Maurice? Someone sort of David Lynch-y? He spooks me the same way Robert Blake does in Lost Highway.

What a treat! I've listened to most of your Knifepoint stories, and Possession is still my favorite. I'll revisit it here and there, and it looks like I will be listening yet again. I love all the different layers to the story. I also love how it's not entirely clear if all of these weird occurrences are linked to one another, or just a series of unfortunate events.

Thanks for the re-recording. I can't help but imagine Peter as Iggy Pop, possibly similar to his role in The Adventures of Pete and Pete. (Any adult who doesnt still watch kids tv is a liar, or has the wrong priorities.)

Idea-wise, it’s usually just a case of trying to connect anything unusual I come across or hear or read about to a horror element that could theoretically lie within. 99 times out of 100 it fizzles, but then bam, something will click. More about this will be in a recording I’m preparing in which I’ll ramble deeper about the process. Coming soon!

i didn’t remember this story at all, so this was such a treat to listen to! you have become one of my favorite writers during the past few years, and i would love to know what your process is when coming up with ideas for your stories :-) i really love writing too, but i tend to struggle with forming coherent stories (so i stick to poetry).

Thank you so much. Also, that quiz was HARD but I did appreciate the unhinged illustrations that went with it. Now, quick, someone create a quiz that tells me what my astrological sign is based on my favorite Knifepoint Horror story!

Hands down, my absolute favorite Knifepoint you've ever written. Wonderful to hear it with the brighter audio - although, as a looooong time KH fan and 'purist', one of my favorite aspects of your audio recordings is that they are imperfect, crunchy, compressed. The atmosphere that those lower quality recordings creates sometimes makes your prose that much more disturbing. Especially with a good set of noise canceling headphones.
No matter what, this story is my favorite, the most immersive quiet and unsettling. Bravo! Thank you so much for this!
