crannies

Many people who hear things behind their walls suspect their house is haunted, but can’t prove it. Maybe they’re failing to ask one very simple question: How did those walls even come to be?

Additional narration by Charlotte Kulak

Music: 'Earth' by Doug Reed / Study of Sound, from the album Musica Mundana.

Released everywhere else on Friday. And coming soon... the Final Clash of the Knifepoint Villains: Tarp v. Droditch v. Karen v. Hall.

Hope you do add to this in the future, adding not just length but zooming in. It's easier for me to relate to people than to accounts of events. I have a terrible memory and I've forgotten half the events by the time the story ends. Characters, I don't forget.

Sinkhole Pele…being on the soccer field and all

Holey the Hole

Thorne Russell

Just watched the sinkhole video. We need to start naming them like we do hurricanes!

Soren Narnia

Hope you do that. It sounds like it would make for a pretty thrilling story!

Mike M.

I think that's an accurate summation of this story's approach--usually I don't like to "zoom out" from the direct first-hand experience of one person, since in general, the more that a story zooms out and the more points of view from which it's told, the more tension is lost... but I got to wondering about the one-off possibilities of packing a lot of history and events into a very tight story length and figured it might be a fun departure from the norm. One day I may attempt to complete the very long, very twisty version of this tale as I originally outlined it....

Soren Narnia

I read the title as 'grannies' so I was ready for some elderly hijinks. Fail!

Soren Narnia

I read the title as carnies so I kept waiting for a carnival to be introduced 😆. Did anyone else see that soccer field with the sinkhole in Illinois?

James Solis

It’s so wonderful to sit here and look at all the wonderful comments drawing parallels from the great horror masters, knowing full well Soren is one of them. I know I already commented on this one, I did a 3rd listen, but I wanted to say again how much I enjoyed this story! It’s a dang hit!

Thorne Russell

you’re right actually! that’s exactly where i’ve heard that name and i had completely forgot about it!

Mario

You big silly! It’s the dang Pokémon. Vigoroth

Thorne Russell

I was thinking about the short story Jerusalems Lot and The House on the Borderlands

Thorne Russell

I felt the true horror was in the fact that all this horrible stuff, all this gravitas, was completely and casually disregarded at the end. Someone had a chance to stop the fact that this horror now besets a children’s hospital and it’s going to get so much worse. And then….some office worker just goes “meh, whatever!” The ending was personally what hit me so hard. Everything was there to stop a series of horrifying tragedies. But nothing was done.

Mike M.

I like the mood of this one, but I noticed some differences from other knifepoint stories. Usually there is a lot of detail about the effects of some supernatural force, and the characters’ experience of them, but an unresolved mystery about the force itself. In this one, it seems the focus is on an explanation behind a lot of strange occurrences, but not much detail on the occurrences themselves. It makes it a little harder to get that feeling of “yeah, I felt something like that once”. Maybe it just feels that way because so much of the story takes place in the past. I’m going to listen several more times to see if I missed something.

Everett Attebury

So good ! Have to listen again bc I wish it was longer

Noelle

Thank you! I've never seen it before, but it's a beautiful piece

Welcome, Hilde, and thanks for bringing brownies to tonight's meeting!

Soren Narnia

My name is hilde. I'm a knifepointaholic. I listen because I like the way it makes me feel. <3

Hilde Marciniak

That's from 'The Death of Cardinal Beaufort (1789)' by Joshua Reynolds.

Soren Narnia

Now that was good story! I'm gonna be listening to this one again tonight just to ensure I get the right vibes. Also, I have a question about the cover art - it looks like it's from The Nightmare by Henry Fuseli, but I can't seem to find that demon on that art piece. What piece is it from? Thank you, Soren!

Luis Castillo Silva

I was born in Texas but my mother is from RI, we visited every summer. Those experiences have changed my course into one of horror.

Thorne Russell

I really needed this today.

Oni

Just listened again. Damn it hits hard.

Mike M.

Clearly I was getting sentimental about my one and only visit…!

Soren Narnia

A+++++ 10/10 would spook again

David

Yippee! Rhode Island in the Chat! Wonderful Job Soren!!

Thorne Russell

Beyond horrifying. Loved it. Best episode this year.

Morgan McAllister

…and another in July!! We’re not worthy

Lori K.

Another in July?? Lord have mercy

Lori K.

A bit more history nerdage coming in July…

Soren Narnia

As history nerd, I feel seen. Listened twice yesterday driving through the backroads of north MS near Oxford for work. It fit in real nice with the landscape.

Brian Quinn

King meets Lovecraft meets some deep emotion notes. You knocking them out of the park lately.

Mike M.

This reminded me of Jerusalem’s Lot, in a good way. I love an ancient god run amok. I mean, who doesn’t?

Emily T

I just went through the transcripts and realized I confused Vicaroch with the Midoff from ‘sleep.’ These entities are getting harder to keep up with and we definitely need a Knifepoint bestiary soon! Just listened to ‘crannies’ again and I think I picked up the reference! Or rather, it “showed itself” to me…

Mario

Spoiler Alert: The correct answer is: none! (I think.) Though at one point he takes a physical form hearkening back to a passage from ‘possession’….

Soren Narnia

Anyone wanna give me a hint towards what other story Vicaroch is mentioned in? I know I’ve heard the name before but it’s slipping my mind at the moment

Mario

Soren Narnia

A Knifepoint Horror concordance, I like it!

Soren Narnia

I was just thinking 'Man, I hope Soren gets another KPH up sometime soon, he's been on a roll lately'. And then I get the notification. Had to wait until I had time to listen, but well worth it. I like the structure, very H.P. Lovecraft, as is the unfolding nature of the evil at work. While I know these only the occasional and loosest connection between most of the KPH tales, hearing about the Vigeroth (?) here makes me wonder about a sort of Dictionnaire Infernal of the demonic entities that have cropped up over the years and many stories.

Brendan

Love the story; cursed/haunted objects are especially unnerving…all inert and evil. Reference to a Gant gave me the tinglies…they’re my fave KPH family. Thank you!

Lori K.

Oh this was delightfully creepy, with a gothic horror vibe and grotesqueness that I loved. I think I caught some references to ‘house’. Thanks for another amazing tale Soren!

Neha Lal

I love how you often make me wonder--is it really supernatural, or just the insanity seeping out of someone's mind? It's a shame Vigeroth (sp?) came in too late to be in the villain playoffs.

Tanya S.

Great as always. Feels a bit Halloween-y to me (including the journal date, of course).

Ryan Fahey

God bless the cello!

Soren Narnia

How do you always pick the right music for your stories? I had goosebumps!

Leslie

Very nice, listened twice.

Jean Nordland-Skomars

Nicely done. As always

Jamie Morrison

We kooks & nooks love crannies 🙏

buddhapugz

Jubil Gant was my grandfather. An odd man, for sure, but a master residental contractor. He was never the same after his accident though. The escalator, his fear of drinking straws…

David Greenspan

Well I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s a reference to a VERY old episode.

Doug Reed

Do tell…

Chris Dabb

So good!!!! 💜

Lisa

Instantly one of my recent favorites

Cole B

let's gooooooo!!!

Leslie

Ohhhhh man, like the Easter egg from my favorite episode!!

Doug Reed

Whooo hoo! There’s nothing I love more than a something in the walls tale, thanks in large part to Mr. Poe. Kudos for carrying on this fine horror tradition, Soren…as you did with Possession and probably others I can’t think of at the moment.

Lori K.

Cranberries!

Connor Salanger

Creepy Crannies!

Bridgett Bauer

Pumped! I’ve been waiting for this one!
