In days such as these, much as I love chains I’m really trying to support local restaurants. If Mitch, Wiger, Emma, or Yusong were to do a double on one of your favorite standalone restaurants—maybe one that’s killing it with COVID safety or otherwise deserves a special shout-out right now—what would it be?

2020-11-23 18:22:39 +0000 UTCI have lived in South Korea for 8 years and usually do a Friendsgiving. We usually have a turkey and the regular side dishes but there are also great Korean side dishes that work well with Thanksgiving food. I like the jeon, Korean savory pancakes. My question is: what non traditional Thanksgiving food would you like to add to your Thanksgiving meal?

2020-11-23 03:36:50 +0000 UTCI love pho. When I was in vietnam it was served as a breakfast! I had no clue and was super stoked. What food would you switch to an alternative time of day?

2020-11-20 22:56:30 +0000 UTCI subscribe to You’re the Man Now Dog’s Patreon, and they recently sent out free masks, with their logo on them, to all of their September patrons. My question to the Doughboys and Emma is: Where’s my free stuff? P.S. I wear a 33/34 pant, a large shirt and a size 10 1/2 shoe. Thanks in advance!

2020-11-14 06:43:15 +0000 UTCAlso RIP to JT. Heard Rulloff’s isn’t coming back when the new building is finished. As a former Nines-er I know Mark’s gotta be feeling #blessed to sell the building before everything went downhill (literally and figuratively). Just heard Carriage House is next on the block, tho apparently CTB is thriving in their new spot so maybe not everyone is running down the hill quite as fast as I’ve heard... sorry, just excited to talk to fellow Ithacans about Ithaca food and IT departments, don’t get either of those joys too often in Philly 😅

2020-11-13 15:15:08 +0000 UTCYou talk a lot about nostalgia from your childhood when it comes to food. However, is there anything food related you see that kids get to have today that you wish you had in your childhood? Are there things this generation of kids will be nostalgic for that our generation didn't have that you wish we grew up with?

2020-11-12 19:46:31 +0000 UTCDuring a recent episode, Wiger was sharing his corporate language experience with Skittles lentils, but also kept correcting Mitch on the correct pluralization of Cheeze-Itz. I figured I would go straight to the source and ask the Kellogg Corporation and they have provided me their definition: "There is not an official naming its all up to the eyes and ears of the individual." Like Mitch, Kellogg's too believes in the linguistic principal of common usage. Nothing has made me laugh more this year than discovering your podcast during Munch Madness. You have brought me true joy through this awful period of history. Love you guys, Emma, Yusong, and yes, even Susser.

2020-11-11 15:23:18 +0000 UTCJudgement needed! I am a high school teacher and yesterday there was a last minute switch to the lunch menu which was announced over the loudspeaker; that the lunch option for the day would be replaced with buffalo wing dip, chips and celery. This polarized the school staff and student body; some delighted in the change and swore that this was the best lunch ever served at school while others raged in indignation that dip is not a main meal- it's a side or a snack, and larger quantities of it does not change that status. My class is divided, student against teacher, lab partner against lab partner- it's a mess! (literally, as they have to eat in the classroom due to COVID). We look to you to end this conflict- is buffalo wing dip with chips and celery alone a meal?

2020-11-11 06:14:22 +0000 UTCLast year at work, a new intern came up to me and said “oh hey I think I’ve delivered grubhub to you before!” Then, months later, I had recently moved apartments, and a different driver drops off food for me and says “oh hey man, you move?” How do I get grubhub drivers to stop absolutely owning me? I really would rather not accept ‘order less grubhub’ as an answer.

2020-11-11 03:27:28 +0000 UTCHi Nick, Mitch, Emma and the Ghost of Yusong - when I was in high school, I worked at my hometown's local burger joint, Flippin' Burgers (formerly in Newton, Mass!), and at the end of service each night, my manager Bert would play Neil Young while we closed up shop. To this day, whenever I hear Neil Young, whether it's "Rockin' in the Free World" or "Heart of Gold," I have a Proustian memory of this job, burgers and hard work. 2020-11-11 02:20:48 +0000 UTCWith Thanksgiving coming around the corner, I was reminiscing on the past family Thanksgiving gatherings I've had and which ones had the best food. 2020-11-11 01:30:24 +0000 UTCHey Doughboys, your pod is without a doubt one of the tastiest, according to the 2020 Discover Pod awards released a day ago you are the best food podcast! 2020-11-11 01:29:05 +0000 UTCHi boys! Here's my question. I was once attracted to a woman who, after a few dates, admitted that she didn't see anything special in food outside of sustenance. She admitted if there was a pill she could take to never have to eat again she would. Any attraction I had for her immediately evaporated. Outside of solving world hunger, replacing food with a pill seems to me to be removing one of the most pleasurable things we have in this short life. Would you guys take the pill? Would you have a similar reaction as me?

2020-11-11 01:18:28 +0000 UTCHi Doughboys! Are there any fast food items that you upgrade when you bring home to eat? I’m from Philly and it’s pretty well known that wawa has weak tomatoes, so if I have a juicy tomato at home, I’ll get my hoagie without and add them myself. Thanks!

2020-11-11 01:17:23 +0000 UTCI had never heard the word ‘varietal’ used like you two use it (possibly because I’m British), but now it has seeped into my vocabulary. What are words that you only know/use regularly because you’ve encountered them via food?

2020-11-11 01:13:28 +0000 UTCBecause choices around food seem to be the only actionable way for the public to affect climate change I've decided to give up beef and try to eat more veggies. I'm getting pretty sick of chicken, but am still enjoying roasted sweet potatoes and prepackaged salads from Vons. Supposedly Chipotle, Sweet Green and Veggie Grill are all pretty eco friendly but who really knows. Do you take climate change or other environmental issues into account when you eat? What would be your go to for veggie focused chain meal? Sorry if this comment is depressing... much love J

2020-11-11 01:07:08 +0000 UTCHi guys! I’ve reignited my love for Ellios pizza but always feel like frozen pizzas lack a little something. I’ve been adding fresh sliced onions and a little more cheese which has made them even better! My questions is...do you guys ever add fresh ingredients to your frozen pies? If so, what are your faves? I also like to add corn on there sometimes. It adds some sweetness and a lil freshness. Gross or no?

2020-11-11 00:10:16 +0000 UTCHey Doughboys, with the holiday season coming up, I want to know if you have any favorite non-traditional foods for the holidays or memorable non-traditional holiday meals. 2020-11-11 00:08:59 +0000 UTCWhat’s the worst execution of a great food item that you’ve ever had? In college, I bought a discount frozen pizza that tasted like ketchup on cardboard. I will never forget the brand: Mr. P’s frozen pizza.

2020-11-11 00:00:37 +0000 UTCTo the Doughboys, Burgers are without a doubt a sum-of-its-parts situation, and of all your typical toppings, I think Lettuce can be a low-key significant component. It could even make or break a burger! My question is: What are your thoughts on the different forms of burger Lettuce? Do have a favorite? Shredded? Whole Leaf? Chopped? Iceberg? Romaine? Fancy Crap? Thanks for the good times, Eric from New Jersey PS. Next time you're both back on the East Coast, you've gotta hit Barebuger.

2020-11-10 23:34:01 +0000 UTCIt's popular wisdom that the more delicious a food is, the worse it is for you — and vice versa, the healthier a food is, the worse it tastes. 2020-11-10 22:46:19 +0000 UTCThis is a food/music hybrid question. Think of your favorite meals, or specific items of food. Now think of your favorite songs, or pieces of music. What are some similarities between them? Does a favorite meal pair well with a favorite song? Does crunching into a cool ranch Dorito sync up with a tasty lick on a guitar? Is this question way too out there? Quarantine may be making me lose my mind. Luckily I have the pod to keep my grey matter intact. Thank you all for being there during these hellscape times.

2020-11-10 22:37:13 +0000 UTCHi Spoonman & Forkboy & Crew, Do you remember a time when you exerted maximum effort in making a meal only to have it backfire in some way? If not, maybe a homemade meal you’re most proud of? (For example: I once spent hours making ravioli from scratch to impress my girlfriend. I accidentally boiled them for too long causing the cheese inside to curdle. It tasted off but we ate a good amount out of politeness - and later became violently ill) Thanks! 2020-11-10 22:03:43 +0000 UTCFrom 1976 to 1987, the Swedish government owned and operated the fast food chain CLOCK. Among its items: the Big Mac-inspired Big Clock. Its main competitor at the time was indeed McDonald's -- and from what I can recall, Clock more than held its own. In 1991, the state sold off Clock to a private owner, and it quickly fell on hard times. The last location closed in 1999. QUESTION: What fast food chain would you like to be owned and run by the government?

2020-11-10 22:02:07 +0000 UTCI promise there is a question at the end. 9 years ago I went to IHOP for the first time. It was a rainy Monday morning and I was in need of a good breakfast to get ready for an over-the-phone job interview. [At the time I was driving all over the country, often sleeping in my truck except when I had the pleasure of sleeping in a work trailer next to an oil rig. I really needed this job.] I drove to a nearby IHOP, avoiding the downpour. Had a waffle, sausage, eggs, OJ, and black coffee. I was pleasantly surprised with the food and service – nothing exciting but good enough. As I was paying I could see the staff looking out the window and talking about something in the parking lot. I was too busy mentally reviewing my resume to be concerned with their conversation. I closed the door to my truck and was surprised when someone knocked on the passenger window. I rolled the window down and asked if they needed help. “I could use a ride” replied the woman, not wearing rain-appropriate clothing. I was limited on time but she explained we weren’t going real far. She ALSO explained that she would do a “half n half” for $150 or just sex for $200. Yes, I picked up an IHOP parking lot sex worker – and everyone inside the IHOP knew it. I explained I was just a small town guy caught up in a game he didn’t understand, dropped her off, and went on my way. I’m not anti sex worker but who are these people filling up on coffee and syrup then diving in to a 'half n half'? We've heard of crimes committed in or near restaurants on the pod - but what crimes would you associate with various breakfast spots?

2020-11-10 21:58:21 +0000 UTCThis goes back to Friendly Green Grocer Mitch's Grocery Store Month (your best theme month ever). I think Nick mentioned something about how having a Trader Joe's and Costco in the same shopping center is the ideal setup. As someone who lives close to a shopping center with both a TJs and a Costco, I can confirm it fucking rules. With that in mind, I'd love to hear your 'Fantasy Foodstuffs Shopping Center' lineups. Similar to a fantasy football roster, you need to pick: 2 - Sit Down Chain Restaurants (RBs) 2 - Fast Food Chain Restaurants (WRs) 1 - Local Eatery -- either sit down/fast food (QB) 1 - Grocery Store (TE) 1 - Any of the above (Flex) Would love to hear Yusong and Emma's picks as well. Probably should've sent this closer to the start of football season, but hey -- I'm a doughboys listener, not a contributing member of society.

2020-11-10 20:56:27 +0000 UTCIf you all had to combine forces to make a dinner spread that featured the best East and West coast food options, what would that look like? It would be served to someone with no prior knowledge of East and West coast culture or cuisine, and should represent both regions equally. I'm a Chicago native, so my version of this would be Green River pop, an Italian beef sandwich garnished with giardineria, and a deep dish pizza with some crushed up Andy Capp hot fries on top. Maybe some lean for dessert.

For example: I always say that Christmas Coca-Cola (cans/bottles with the Santa/polar bear) tastes way better than everyday Coke. Fun fact: I worked a party for some Coca-Cola employees and asked one of them why Christmas coke is so good. He said it’s probably because of where the christmas Coke is produced. 2020-11-10 20:10:37 +0000 UTCAs someone who loves fast food for what it is I’ve found a big driver for me craving certain items are the dips or sauces that the establishment provides to the consumer. For example, In my freshman year of college I would go to McDonald’s and order a 20 piece McNugget and A large fry multiple times a week and the reason was because at the time they were offering “habanero ranch” a limited time dip. While this was offered I gained around 20 pounds. I was addicted. After it was discontinued, I was distraught and my trips to McDonald’s cratered to almost zero. All because of a simple dip. Do either of you have a mount dip-more? My current favorites include Wendy’s sriracha sauce, and Taco Bell’s classic Fire sauce. Thanks!

2020-11-10 20:06:12 +0000 UTCHey Guys! On the Cheers episode you guys talked about some local ‘horny’ chains like Hooters and it reminded me of my hometown’s famous Ice Cream Parlor whose employees don’t dress in anything revealing, but are called the very Midwest nickname of ‘The Hot Fudge Hotties.’ Growing up everyone had a crush on a worker, would go to a certain line, the works, but it wasn’t until recently, I’m 21, when I realized that to this day the owner only hires High School girls. As a High Schooler you don’t really think anything of it because they’re your peers, I even knew someone who applied but got turned down for not being hot enough! But in the past couple years I’ve realized just how gross it is that these high school aged workers are portrayed like this that I don’t go anymore. So... the question is-has there ever been a restaurant from your life that you never realized until later, was doing something fucked up the entire time it was operating. Thanks!
