Dear Dough-men, was thinking back to my college and grad school days and reminiscing on stupid drunk restaurant stories, for example, I attended grad school in Laramie, WY and one blur of a night a group of us ended up at a Shari's restaurant (similar to Denny's/IHOP). This particular location was located at the street address 666 and we thought it would be fun to try the Devil's Breakfast (a name of our own creation) of: 6 eggs(any style), 6 pancakes and 6 of either bacon/sausage. My buddy offered to pay for mine if he got to choose the eggs and protein if I would do the challenge. I accepted, he made me eat 6 sunny side up eggs and 6 sausages with the pancakes, I didn't complete it, and then when he got the bill it cost too much (all single items order) so I had to pay what he was unwilling to cover. My question is, what is one stupid drunk restaurant story that you each have and what are the details? Hoping this becomes a regular segment as stupid drunk restaurant stories are some of my best/funniest memories with food and friends...

2020-10-16 20:20:54 +0000 UTCHey Wiger - I absolutely love the show; you and Emma consistently make my week. My question is: If you could have one living celebrity chef as a permanent co-host for the podcast with you, who would you pick? Shout out to Emma, Yusong, and Wally.

2020-09-30 12:45:00 +0000 UTCHey Doughboys, My daughter just turned 5 and is beginning to branch out in her snacking, so I get to explore the world of junk food with her! Because of that we're getting some foods that I haven't had since childhood. That leads me to my question... Is there a food (junk food or otherwise) that you alway had in your house while growing up, that you never have now? And the reverse of that, is there something you always wanted while growing up that your parents never let you get, but you now regularly get for yourself as an adult? Thanks!

2020-09-25 19:49:59 +0000 UTCHi Nick, Mitch, Emma & Yusong, You guys have gotten me through so many early morning shifts working at King Soopers. Recently started looking at the prepackaged bulk snacks that I so frequently overlook when I'm shopping and was reminded of all the gas station/bulk snacks I don't really think about that much. I enjoy an occasional peach ring and will eat the heck out of some wasabi peas if I find them but my favorite is probably the tex-mex snack mix. Are there any generic candy/snacks you really love or go out of your way to get if you're on a road trip, at a dollar store, etc. PS, I generally agreed with yous guyses opinions on Kroger's store brand stuff but I figured I'd make a couple recommendations. The Private Select brand is the only thing store brand worth buying at a Kroger. A lot of the PS ice creams are pretty tasty for the price compared to your Hagen Dazes and your Bens and Jerrys. More specifically though, the PS Five Cheese (onion) Marmelade frozen pizza is astounding for a frozen pizza. I like it because my SO is anti-redsauce on pizza so it's perfect with the orange marmalade instead of the red sauce. Give it a try!

2020-09-22 05:10:23 +0000 UTCHave you guys heard of Bit Brigade? They are a band from here in Athens, GA (with a pretty substantial national following) who do prog-metal covers of video game soundtracks while a guy plays the game onstage. Thought you might like based on the recent Metallica ep. https://bitbrigade.bandcamp.com/

2020-09-21 15:15:07 +0000 UTCWhattup Doughfam! My SO and I have done shacked up, and we’re learning all the fun and not so fun quirks about living together, namely eating habits. Recently I’ve noticed he eats certain food with the “wrong” (to me at least) utensils. For example, he eats Mac n Cheese with a spoon and curry and rice with a fork. Any weird eating habits you might have or have observed? Thanks and love y’all!

2020-09-20 06:05:11 +0000 UTCHi dough friends I am getting married in two weeks. Due to Covid-19 we are having a small wedding with a dinner at a nice restaurant after. Next year we are planning a larger reception. Do you prefer a buffet style dinner at a wedding or preset chicken/beef/veggie options? Also, (I think) I want to introduce her to doughboys on our honeymoon road trip. Is there an episode you recommend starting with?

2020-09-19 22:26:13 +0000 UTCHey folks, long-time listener from the UK here. So on this side of the pond we still have dine-in Pizza Hut buffets (at least we did pre-covid...) and the Volcano Burrito at Taco Bell. Is there a menu item, chain or snack that you no longer have access to that you wish you could bring back? Maybe it still exists elsewhere in the world! Thanks y'all.

2020-09-19 20:18:49 +0000 UTCExcellently and, I think, sensitively articulated. I feel like they haven't had to deal with this sort of thing up to now because they've always had their friends/colleagues as guests, who are essentially naturally vetted. Yes, it's a silly podcast about chain restaurants, but one of the reasons I love the show is that they try to call attention to the problematic aspects of certain chains. It's like having Sean Spicer on "Dancing with the Stars" or Jimmy Fallon ruffling Donald Trump's hair. It humanizes the reprehensible. Trying to be apolitical while this country is being destroyed in broad daylight... isn't great. I've been on unemployment because of the pandemic, too. (Film/tv production industry.) The reopening of this city has been happening very incrementally, and the jobs don't just automatically return. Hang in there, Sam. Michael, Manhattan, NY

2020-09-19 11:37:00 +0000 UTCHey guys, just wanted to reach out and let you know how much this podcast has helped me, and that I’ve listened to pretty much every episode! I am curious about where Mitch is from? I feel like he has some sort of messed up accent? Thanks for all the content!

2020-09-18 18:01:43 +0000 UTCHey Guys! On the Cheers episode you guys talked about some local ‘horny’ chains like Hooters and it reminded me of my hometowns famous Ice Cream Parlor whose employees don’t dress in anything revealing, but are called the very Midwest nickname of ‘The Hot Fudge Hotties.’ Growing up everyone had a crush on a worker, would go to a certain line, the works, but it wasn’t until recently, I’m 21, when I realized that to this day the owner only hires High School girls. As a High Schooler you don’t really think anything of it because they’re your peers, I even knew someone who applied but got turned down for not being hot enough, but now it’s just so gross that these workers are portrayed like this that I don’t go anymore. So... the question is-has there ever been a restaurant from your life that you never realized until later, was doing something fucked up the entire time it was operating. Thanks! Caleb from Akron, OH.

2020-09-18 17:00:51 +0000 UTCHowdy Doughboys, Emma and Yusong! I don't have a question, I do have a comment though. I believe that Buffalo Wild Wings listened to your episode with Leslie, or, at least, someone informed them of your episode with Leslie. B-Dubs has changed their lemon pepper recipe! It's now a wet sauce, akin to their parm garlic wings. The Doughboys can't be bought, but they certainly influence the market!

2020-09-18 16:10:54 +0000 UTCHey there Doughboys! This question is only for members of the DDC (Dead Dad Club). Is there any food that your dad used to prepare that doesn’t taste the same without him making it? For me, he made the best BLT. Idk what the secret is or why his always tasted so good compared to every other blt I’ve ever had. But his were always exceptional and un-replicable. Also, I was just kidding, I’d love to hear Nick, Emma, and Yusong’s answers to this question as well. Thanks and Happy Eating!

2020-09-18 00:47:26 +0000 UTCI was scrolling instagram and ran across barstool sports Dave Portnoy doing a pizza review. 2020-09-17 22:59:38 +0000 UTCAs a friend group in college whenever we had a potluck gathering someone always brought Cheeto Salad as a joke slash out of laziness.(Several different forms of cheese puffs in a salad bowl) Most of us still live in the same area and when we have potlucks someone typically still brings it even though most of the other food is "real adult food". I guess the question is Which is the best cheese puff variety for a cheeto salad? Are there any other types of junk food you can combine in this way?

2020-09-17 22:45:32 +0000 UTCThe other day I had the idea of a Dairy Queen smaller off shoot restaurant that just served blizzards so there could be more locations without the cost of operating a full service kitchen. 2020-09-17 18:59:52 +0000 UTCWhy does In N Out make their employees ask if we'd like onions on the burger? I know onions are probably the most divisive thing on a burger but they're not ~that~ divisive. If someone doesn't want onions on a burger, let them say so themselves! And if you're going to ask if I want onions on my burger, might as well ask if I want tomatoes or cheese or special sauce or anything else! In N Out's famously long lines are relatively fast and efficient, but this question feels so unnecessary and it definitely adds up over a long day of selling burgers.

2020-09-17 17:54:38 +0000 UTCJust wondering if you guys have had a chance to watch McMillions on HBO yet? 2020-09-17 11:58:08 +0000 UTCI live in Brooklyn and once lived in a neighborhood surrounded by a bunch of warehouses. I was next door neighbors with one place that would deliver fish and then right across the street was a huge bakery that would deliver bread and sweets. In the mornings the street smelled like fish (ew) but in the evenings it smelled like cinnamon sugar donuts (totally dreamy). If you could live above or be neighbors with any chain restaurant, what would you choose? I feel like Dunkin would be great, going back to those donut smells. But would it be cool to live above a forgotten Applebees? From your adoring super-fan who can't throw you $5 a month so she makes her boyfriend do it - Leigh (pronounced Lee)

2020-09-17 10:11:29 +0000 UTCDoughcrew, did you have any strange eating habits as a kid? When i was young I frequently ate sour dough style pretzels and drank soda. 2020-09-17 03:51:11 +0000 UTCHello doughboys, listeners. I had an epiphany on the ride home from Wendy’s tonight. I see you both, after heavy listening, as gregarious, kind people. Same goes for your producers; Emma, Yusong. Given the troubling times we are in would Doughboys Inc. be opposed to a charity event? Whether it’s for a social issue, medical research or otherwise. I truly believe your reach could be utilized in a positive way. Perhaps a livestream with call in guests, games, and challenges could lead to a fun, as well as, efficient way to generate funds for a worthy cause. Just a thought. Love you all and wishing you all good health. P.S. Will Nick ever confess to the crimes committed by the infamous Zodiac killer? Also, I just wanted to say I work at the post office and received a mail in ballot today by the name of Mike Mitchell. Registered Republican and voter of Donald J Trump. Weird.

2020-09-17 03:00:59 +0000 UTCHey Doughboys! With the preface of admitting that I have not listened to the episode yet as it is still Wednesday evening, I was wondering if you could offer some sort of explanation as to why you booked Rob Lowe as a guest on the upcoming In N Out episode? I'm sure you, as well as your listeners, are well aware of his taped statutory rape allegations in addition to his embracing of conservative politics. Lowe has been photographed with Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Sean Spicer, maintains a friendship with conservative Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, and has a now-deleted racist tweet regarding Elizabeth Warren. Does this not directly contradict the politics and morals that everyone affiliated with Doughboys has been so publicly outspoken about? I sincerely hope that even if my question is not read on a future Feedbag episode that this hypocrisy, or at least feeling of being misled about your true political stances, will be addressed. I have been a long supporter of the show and even through my unemployment as a NYC based restaurant server have continued to be a Patreon member because I feel as though it's important to support small artists as much as i can. However, I must admit this is the first time I considered canceling my Patreon subscription. I truly love the show and enjoy the parasocial relationship I've come to develop with you two, but I'm worried that you've compromised your beliefs here. This isn't even addressing the fact that Lowe is presumably coming on your podcast to promote his own podcast, an astonishing example of rich celebrities invading a platform that less fortunate artists like yourselves have used to financially support themselves. Thank you for reading this and I look forward to your response, Sam Brooklyn, NY

2020-09-17 01:56:38 +0000 UTCMy Dad raised myself and two brothers by himself with practically no home economic skills to speak of. He found his comfort zone in cooking with casseroles (I'm from South Dakota, people fuckin bleed goulash) , he saw them as some kind of hack. They were normally disgusting caloric blockbusters that left you sated but sluggish. His favorite was what he called Texas Roundup, it consisted of ground beef and a bottle of bbq sauce thrown into a baking dish then he'd lay out a can of Pillsbury Grands biscuits. It was gross but I crave it sometimes at 30 years old. So my question, did your parents ever feed you things that were innocently made but probably detrimental to your health and development?

2020-09-17 00:14:43 +0000 UTCMy question is for Mitch and Emma, with some fun history peppered in for Wiger (and Yusong gets to read it- yay!). I live in Portland, Maine where the first sandwich to be named an "Italian" sandwich was INVENTED. In 1900, Italian immigrant and baker Giovanni Amato began to fill his rolls with meat, cheese and veggies to cheaply feed the hungry dockworkers like my great grandfather, a Russian immigrant. It was named "the Italian" in honor of his country and his people, not for its ingredients, like other Italian sandwiches you might be familiar with. Today, an original Maine Italian consists of simple boiled deli ham, American cheese, tomatoes, green bell pepper, pickles, onions, olives and SPO (salt+pepper+oil) on a soft roll. It's still the working man's sandwich and is available at seemingly every locally-owned pizza/sub shop in the state, but Giovanni's namesake Amato's reigns supreme with 46 locations in New England, primarily in Maine. Amato's is even the direct inspiration for Subway restaurants, but that story is for another time (maybe a Subway episode intro, Wiger?). My question for Mitch and Emma is simply, have you had this historcally-significant/notorisously-drippy sandwich? Spoon Nation.

2020-09-16 23:28:18 +0000 UTCHey Doughboys, Yusong, and Emma, everyone has foods that they like didn’t like as kids but do enjoy as adults. My question is, are there any foods or snacks that you did like when you were younger but do not like as an adult? For example, I used to love Funyuns and French Onion SunChips but now I hate any artificial onion flavor. Thanks! Spoon Nation 4 life 🤙

2020-09-16 23:15:51 +0000 UTCFor all you guys, since everyone (not mitch) has been cooking a lot more, what are your go to home cooked meals when youre super hungry and just want something relatively fast, but that will comfort you? For me its just a huge bowl of pasta with bread on the side. Any sauce. Or maybe a bunch of rice with a great stir fry. Thank you for your service, the real doughboys.

I think if I could buy a box of Jr Bacon Cheeseburgers from Wendy's I think I would be in trouble! 2020-09-16 22:52:25 +0000 UTCI was in a boy's youth choir when I was younger. Every summer we would go around the country on a tour bus and give concerts. One summer, we stopped at a Hardee's in Ohio. When we got in there, a bunch of the boys immediately recognized Zachary Ty Bryan. This was peak Home Improvement. He was on a tour of Midwestern malls. A bunch of us sat with him. He was very nice and was joking around with all of us. I remember during this meal, he took a curly fry, stuck the entire thing into his ketchup cup, pulled it out, and said "Now that's what I call an apple dumpling." We all laughed like crazy. When I was retelling this story years later, someone asked me what that means and I had no idea. Do you guys get what he meant by calling his ketchup covered curly fry an apple dumpling?

2020-09-16 22:48:39 +0000 UTCListening to the BWW episode and I have a question regarding Mitch's choice to order a burger at a chicken restaurant - does a restaurant get a pass for having an item menu that is not in their "core" competencies or should all offered items be treated as equals? Example - my dad complained about the poor quality of a steak at Red Lobster. shouldn't we expect that as lesser quality or does it have the same standards as say the shrimp?

2020-09-16 22:48:31 +0000 UTCDid you ever consider the doughboys Netflix show, rather than a travel show, to be a scripted series about different people’s relationship with food? I can’t think of a show that touches on how people can have positive/nostalgic relationships with food while others can have negative/depressive relationships. Maybe because it’s a bad idea? I dunno 🤷♀️
