2018-03-21 14:08:44 +0000 UTCOk, I understand the concept of cupcakes = pie. It's more about the construction of the individual pastry, if we can agree they are all pastry. (God, I hope.) A cupcake has a base/crust, "filling," and a topping. Much like a pie, and less like a cake. A cake tends to be iced all over, while a cupcake merely has a iced topping, like a pie's whipped cream, meringue or a la mode. And, like a pie, the way a cupcake is baked, leaves it with a "crust" of sorts. Then well filling. And this is where it gets a little strange. A cupcake's filling is cake. It's a cake pie. And apple pie has a crust, apples and some sort of topping usually (whipped cream, ice cream, a slice of cheese... really good btw). Just like a cupckae, crust, filling, topping. Cupcake = pie. Now all that being said. I don't believe this at all - a cupcake is cake.

2018-03-20 19:18:18 +0000 UTCIt's not "Cupcakes = Pie", it's "COP Cakes = Pie". Mitch is just doing mum/mom there. Cop cake is a slang term for pie from early 20th century Boston. Reason being, pie is a little more substantial and edible with your hand than cakes, so bakeries would give cops a slice of pie to eat while they walked their beats.
