Portrait Painting in Profile

Hey! Here's a new 3+ hours long video where I show you my painting process in real-time.

This painting is still in progress right now but I believe it's 80% done and I'll show you the final result as soon as its finished.

My favorite part was painting lips here, and nose too (you can see it around 1 hour and 25 minutes in the video) And also it's been a while since I painted a face in profile so it was exciting for me to do it again.

I took the reference photo for this work myself, on my Canon t3i, and it is attached below.

Hey Joy, Same brushes as always :) I use synthetic round detail brushes in sizes 1, 0 and 00 and some bigger filbert (or sometimes flat) synthetic brushes. They are from various brands, such as Kolibri, Nevskaya palitra, Winsor & Newton, Pinax, Conda (I’m constantly trying new ones) Some of the small brushes are very pointy (I use them for fine details) but many other of my small brushes are not as put together which allows me to hold slightly more paint on the brush when needed and to blend better.

What kind of brushes do you use in this video ? It look so amazing

Hi Stav, Yes, absolutely! I take a lot of breaks and I usually work on a painting over the course of several days. To answer the second part of your question, if when I return to painting my palette is still usable (paints haven’t dried yet) then I just pick it up where I left off; otherwise I premix some new colors that I match to the ones I had on my palette before :)

Wonderful video Daria. If you start painting a face - do you stop/take a break at the middle? I mean, is there any option than you do half a face in one day and the next in a different day? If so, how do you make sure you find the same exact values?

Stav
