I in the contrary find it difficult to leave some brushstrokes, I want my paintings to be less smooth but I really have to force myself to not blend paints as much as I do now... If you do like this effect and want your paintings to be smoother, you have to use a small brush and blend the strokes, carefully, just with a tip of the brush (to not mess up the values)
