A little more about Aldoras :
Aldoras was, as many saw, lucky to be born into the Thelerian family. It is said they have Elven blood going back many into their distant ancestry, though that has far been lost. None of the last few generations even have pointed ears. Yet, they take a lot of pride in this as they believe they have power in their blood. Their family has always sent its sons and daughters to the Exodus Academy, and they have the money to afford it. The Thelerians are often quite successful upon leaving; they aim to be court wizards or high-ranking officials in the various places of the world. The Thelerians also have few children - they aim to keep their bloodline strong.
And then they had Aldoras. Now, his mother and father already had a son and a daughter, but there's magic in the number 3... or so they thought. Aldoras was a dull boy. Though they were not meant to, his brother and sister would practice the basics of magic at home, often under the home tuition of their mother. It meant that they could soar ahead of the other students upon arriving in the Exodus, though they kept it secret. They tried to do the same with Aldoras, but he refused to learn more than the basic minor illusion spell he created. At first, they were thrilled to have an illusionist in the family, but that soon died. Aldoras was not a rule-breaker. He knew he would learn more spells when he was 18 and he was content to practice a single cantrip until then. And practice he did, though not through any means of creativity.
Aldoras, mostly, created a box. It was often brown, it was sometimes beige. It was sometimes 4ft by 4ft, it was sometimes 2ft by 2ft... but always a box. His parents tried whatever they could to find him a muse, but nothing worked. They even paid an extraordinary amount to hire one of the finest Illusionist wizards to show off some of what he could do... Aldoras showed him his box trick.
It wasn't until he was 14 that they had any sort of revelation. Aldoras was sat, playing in the garden, reading his books... when a snail slid past his foot. He played with it most of the day, following it wherever it went (and it didn't go far). And, for the first time ever, he created the illusion of a snail. It was a beige, plain coloured snail, but it wasn't a box! His parents were relieved. They began introducing pets to him; a phoenix hatchling, a rare blink dog, and even a baby owlbear... He put every pet down, went into the garden, and looked for snails.
They couldn't get through to him. "He's going to embarrass us terribly!" Their reputation was everything. On his 16th birthday, they found him the perfect gift. A rare pygmy flail snail. He was thrilled. And by thrilled, i mean he said "yay". Said it. Didn't exclaim it, he just sort of said it. His parents knew that beggars couldn't be choosers and decided it was a win.
Now, 18, he heads off to the Exodus academy. He can create more than a box with his minor illusion trick, though it is still his favourite thing to make. They hope that someone in that academy might inspire him. Their family reputation relied upon it. All Thelerians were great wizards, or at least they liked to think so. They only wish they could say the same for sweet, plain Aldoras.
