Waking up in the arms of your lover is the only way to start your day. At least that’s my new motto from now on. Akari and I woke up at the break of dawn. After she used her clean spell on the both of us, we got dressed and prepared something to eat. The next few days are going to be some hardcore training, according to Akari. I’m both looking forward to it and afraid at the same time. But learning how to control my new power more efficiently is a worthy goal to bust my ass over.
“What kind of weapon do you want to use?” Akari asked as we were about to do our first ever sparring session.
“Hmm… it would be cool to use daggers just like you. Lightning will increase my speed, and having a big sword doesn’t really make much sense. So either having short swords or daggers would be the most effective, I feel.” Not completely sure what I should use, but daggers just seem right.
Akari nodded her head and pulled four daggers out of space. “We have always had a good relationship with the dwarves. They always supply us with the best weapons you can buy. These are made out of mithril, so you should be able to pump your lightning into them. It’s a great magic conductor.”
“So the stories were true about mithril.” Looking at the two daggers Akari just gave to me, they were both silver.
“Haru, I know you haven’t had any combat training, so I will try to hold back as much as possible. But if you can possibly try boosting yourself with lightning, it could even the battlefield. While it’s true you won’t have any technique, speed can make up for it greatly.” She said with encouragement.
“Alright, Akari let me try that real fast before we start.”
“Remember Haru Lightning should come as naturally as breathing because it’s your main affinity. Don’t try to use the lightning; make it understand that you’re its ruler. Push it as if it’s an extension of your body that has always been there.”
I nodded at Akari and tried to use my element as if it was always there. When trying to move a finger or a hand, you don’t really think about the movements. That’s how I have to become with my lightning. Flowing electricity through my body has always been there. Now move with my will and become mine. I’m feeling a tingling sensation throughout my entire body, and I start seeing crackling red lightning surround me. I push it to my legs, feet, arms, and around the daggers being held in my hands.
“That’s perfect, Haru. Now let’s try to spar for a little while and try to use your lightning to the best of your ability.” She said while encouraging me to attack her.
Using my lightning around my body, I lunge towards Akari and go flying right past her. I smashed into some bushes as I tripped and rolled a good hundred feet. The speed I traveled was way faster than I was expecting. It was pretty much like teleporting with how fast I was going. I started to move towards Akari; the next thing I knew, I was already past her.
I watched as Akari ran over to me in worry, and I looked up at her with a smile. “I think the first thing I’m going to have to do is understand how fast I can actually move. The second I went for my attack, I was already past you.” I said with a sigh.
“That’s some incredible speed. Haru Once you master that power, I don’t think anyone will be your match. I couldn’t even see any movement and only heard you land off into the distance.” She had a face full of astonishment.
“I’m going to try running around for a while and figure this out.” I said to Akari, and she nodded at me in affirmation.
It took me the next half a day of smashing into stuff to get some stability in my speed. At the very least, it got much easier to boost myself with lightning. The more I used my element, the easier it became to call on it again. Just like any muscle in your body, it becomes more powerful with continued use.
“Haru, come and eat,” Akari said while waving at me.
Running over and sitting down at our table that, of course, Akari had pulled out of her space ring. I will have to thank my mother-in-law for all the help she gave us in the future. She literally has everything inside there. Her mother must love her dearly; I guess I can understand that. I also feel the same way about her. Akari has told me a few things about her mother, and I’m sure I will get along very well with her. The dad, on the other hand, she doesn’t really talk about.
I’m sure a king is really busy and probably doesn't have much time for kids. That’s something I could never accept if I was put into that role someday. The princess is my mate, so it’s a real possibility I could become a ruler of a kingdom in the future. I will just have to get competent people to handle the hard stuff while I go off with Akari and have fun.
“The food tastes great as always, Akari.” I said as I went to town on the tasty meal.
“Our cook in the castle really put in a lot of time and effort putting all this food together. I’m going to have to thank him when I get back.” She looked at the food with drool slightly hanging out of her mouth.
“I’ve got about a sixty percent grasp on my speed at this point. At the very least I don’t crash as much anymore, but I still overshoot stuff.”
“It’s such a viable power being able to move so fast and still have the power of electricity to fall back on. I wonder what kind of destruction would happen if you put a lot of power into a strike.” She seemed interested in the idea.
“If the damage on the football field yesterday was any indication, it could be catastrophic if used right.” Thinking about the possibilities really made me want to try it even more.
“Think about this, Haru. You electrocute everyone, stopping them in place, and then I blow everything up with my fire. It’s a perfect combo attack.” Akari said with excitement.
“That does sound like something extremely destructive, and we should work on that combo attack in the future.” I nodded back at her in agreement.
After we finished eating, I spent the rest of the day getting my speed under control. I would rate it around ninety percent after a full day of running around and a lot of crashing. Akari wants me to work on attacking with lighting tomorrow. She kind of gave up on sparing because even if we did, she couldn’t keep up with my speed. Working on my technique could be something for the future because it’s not relevant if they can’t even see my movements.
The next day, I’m out with Akari practicing my firepower. The plan today is to see how much mana I can push into a lightning bolt. Once we figure that out, I will fine-tune it to a level where I can control it with accuracy. Having a huge amount of mana means it will be even harder to control at first. Finding that medium is the goal for today.
If I just want to go for a single strike, condensing my mana to one finger works the best. It allows for a lot of control while creating a powerful strike that attacks one certain target. If I want to have a chain lightning effect, I channel my mana into all five fingers, firing it at the targets. It spreads out and affects multiple enemies. Doing different experiments with lightning continued on for the rest of today.
My current abilities with my element are as follows: Lightning strike that allows for single-target elimination. Chain lightning is an area of effect spell for multiple enemies. Extreme speed boost by running electricity through my body. I could enchant my daggers with lightning strike that attacks every time I make contact with the blade on my target.
That’s pretty much it for now; I tried to create a lightning storm. But my overall knowledge with my element doesn’t allow me to do that yet. At the football field, I did something similar but couldn’t copy the effect just yet. I’m sure given time; I will be able to achieve it. With the few days of training under my belt, the main event is about to happen.
Tomorrow morning, we will head to her world. I’m extremely excited and very afraid of going there at the same time. I don’t really know much about her world, besides what she’s told me. When she left to come find me, they were having a lot of hostilities from the humans and elves. It wouldn’t surprise Akari if they attacked her kingdom sometime in the near future. The humans want to raise the beastkin like cattle and slaves for their own enjoyment. The elves want our resources as we have very fertile lands.
A war zone is what we’re probably getting ready to head into. No more easy days sitting in class ignoring everything around me. I’m going to be in the thick of it as the mate of a princess. She told me they were at the very top in that world in power and wouldn't be taken lightly by anyone. But their biggest power threat is Akari, and she’s not even currently there. So let’s just hope nothing bad happened to Akari’s kingdom while she was away.
“How do you feel, Akari? Tomorrow you will be back in your world.” I asked with intrigue.
“I’m really excited to see my mother again. We’re pretty much best friends and usually talk a lot. So not seeing her for multiple weeks was hard. But once I met you, it did help alleviate that quite a bit. I still wish to see her, though.” She said as she snuggled up next to me. We’re both currently lying in bed about to go to sleep.
“What about your dad? Do you have a bad relationship with him? You haven’t really said much about your relationship.” I was really curious about this because of how she avoided talking about him.
“Well, it was more about how overprotected he was; that got extremely annoying. Over the past few years, we really didn’t talk much because I would avoid interacting with him. Wanting to protect someone is fine, but he always took it to another level, and I got sick of it.” She said with a sigh, “I was probably a bit harsh on him, but what’s done is done.”
Oh crap is he like one of those fathers who refuse to see his daughter with another man? I really hope not; I would rather not fight with someone who will be family.
“I can understand that to a certain extent. Wanting to protect you is something I believe in and is now built into the very core of my being. But I guess I can’t be too overbearing, or you will start ignoring me too.” I said with a light chuckle.
“Honestly Haru, I would expect that out of you, and I would never push you away. Please just be yourself around me no matter what. That’s how I always plan to act towards you. I could forgive you for just about anything, but having relations with another girl. She would die the second I find out.” Her tone was very serious and heavy.
“Akari You should know it’s impossible for something like that to happen. The bond we have between us is unbreakable. Also, if some random girl starts hitting on me, I would probably knock her away before you would even have a chance. I’m a one-girl kind of guy and would never even consider having another.”
“Of course, Haru. I know that very well; it just makes me feel good to hear it.” She said as she kissed my cheek, “I love you and can’t wait to show you off to my parents tomorrow.”
“I’m looking forward to it, Akari, and I love you as well.”
This would be the last time for quite a while feeling so carefree. We would come to find out that Akari was not told everything before she came here. The reality of her kingdom is not what she thought.
