Imminent Final Episode of BSC + Link to Bonus Show Playlist.
Added 2024-03-16 02:15:50 +0000 UTCThe upcoming Episode 38 will be the final episode of Born in the Second Century for the foreseeable future, as the show will go into an indefinite hiatus. I've been considering this decision for the past several months, and there were a number of factors that led to it.
However, I wanted to ensure that you as patrons would still have access to the bonus shows going forward. After extensively looking into all the options, I decided to convert all of the Born in the Century After Dark episodes to unlisted YouTube videos and add them to an unlisted playlist. The link can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOKYJ032NDd18QjmzhypJ0VwCgn6eSDZw
Currently all of the bonus shows are included with the exception of #8 and #11. I can't find the masters for those two shows at the moment; I hope to recover them in the near future, at which point I'll upload the shows. Please bookmark this playlist, as I will be unpublishing the Patreon page on April 30, 2024 and when that occurs, the current RSS feed will no longer be active.
In addition to turning off Patreon billing in January and February 2024, I turned off billing for March and will do so for April, to allow time for all members to read this post and secure the YouTube playlist link. After that, I will still maintain access to the show's email address at secondcenturypodcast@gmail.com, if anyone still ever needs the link to the playlist or wants one of the documents that was shared on Patreon.
Going forward, I'll also continue the process of uploading all 38 BSC episodes to the YouTube channel. It takes a bit longer to do those because I have to edit the transcripts line by line.
Most importantly for me, I wanted to thank each of you for your support over the past three years. Having tangible support from dedicated fans (in the form of patronage and the correspondence that I had with many of you) was a strong motivation for me to continue doing the show throughout that period, including during some difficult times. Actually, as I see it, the patrons had the greatest single impact on my theory of Christian origins since I began the show, because I was able through your support to invest in the purchase of that Oskar Skarsaune book that demonstrated Justin's reliance on the Testimonia. This was something that that conservative theologian reported almost laconically, as if it didn't matter very much, but in doing so he had very unwittingly provided me with very piece that had been missing from my own radical paradigm.
It's not impossible for BSC to return in the future, perhaps in a different format, but I don't have any concrete plans for that. Nonetheless, I'm sure we'll encounter each other again. In the meantime, think of me whenever you fire up Bart's Nightmare on the SNES.
