Gospel of Matthew, Working Copy

In addition to the monthly Bonus Shows, I wanted to also start sharing more of my show preparation materials, and so over time I'll be posting more of my so-called "Working Copies," which, for the New Testament, are based on the NASB.

I remember having a book called "The Bible With Sources Revealed" that color-coded the various parts of the Torah (J writer, P writer etc.) So over time I adopted a similar concept for my own versions that I use to prepare the show. In this copy of Matthew, one can see the correspondences with Mark and "Q," as well as Matthew's own material.

These are living documents, and so not everything is complete, and there are even some notes to myself that can be found in this version.

I look forward to eventually sharing some of my "Observation Copies," which have bullet points under each verse that contain various important or interesting facts about them.

One of the things that was very useful to me recently in using this document was that I frankly never realized that both Matthew and Luke apparently took a line from Q that indicated that Jesus finished his big speech. I hadn't suspected that the speeches were artificial compositions by them (meaning, Q itself had some kind of speech which they edited, rather than them both creating speeches out of disparate Q quotes). But if Q contained a long Jesus speech that ended with a formal line about "OK folks, that's the end of the speech," it could be an indication that what we call "Q" was indeed some kind of narrative gospel.

I use Evernote, but this is the Evernote Legacy that they remind me every five minutes to upgrade. But the new Evernote lacks many colors for color coding, and without the full palette i cant do these notes. The big downside of the legacy program is that it sometimes has huge memory leaks but not often.

What sort of notes app do you use for this?

Oh also, the underlined names in the genealogy are the ones shared with Luke; I forgot to add that to the key.
