The future of the CHOOSE YOUR THEME polls
Added 2020-12-07 07:13:16 +0000 UTCHello everyone,
I trust you are doing well and keeping yourself healthy and safe!
Recently, I've noticed a very high activity on the polls. Specifically those, that result from my themes and the suggested characters in the comment section of those themes.
On the other hand, when you are given the option to suggest entire themes yourself, I witness a very low activity.
(we currently have two things going on at the time, as always pinned)
Until now I've rationalized this trend with the fact that polls are easier to interact with; you simply click on your options; done. Choose Your Theme posts require you to come up with a theme and explain it in a few words. While that does not sound like too much of a difference, it really is at the end of the day. We also keep running into themes that - while yes, they do absolutely qualify and I would endorse - aren't very suitable for the masses.
The initial idea of the Choose Your Theme polls was to give you even more of a voice and freedom in what themed polls are created. However, I can see that even when a theme is chosen, the interactivity in the polls in those ones is lower too.
That's why I'm wondering:
Should we keep the Choose Your Theme polls or should we get rid of them?
Please vote but also feel free to discuss in the comment section and don't be afraid to reply to each other if you agree/disagree with each other.

I can understand how it might be hard to come up with themes, but I feel that the underlying point of themes in the first place is more to prevent people from suggesting the same character over and over again whether they win or not. We all talk on the Discord, and some people say "haha does my favorite character count because (ridiculous amounts of stretching that barely makes sense)" But the thing is, what if someone shows up and they do all that and they're completely unironic about it? The point of themes is that if someone does that with either malicious intent, or wanting to manipulate results, you can just say "no, shut up, doesnt fit theme" and it's done. My only other concern would be the Wild West that the suggestion polls would turn into without these limitations in place.

2020-12-08 05:02:29 +0000 UTCI voted to let go of the polls because we may have no other choice. From what I’ve seen, it seems some patrons are more willing to take part than others - and if activity in CYT polls keeps dropping, we may have a poll with no winners someday. I don’t want to see the polls dropped, but unless more people contribute to them they may have to go.

2020-12-07 14:37:44 +0000 UTCI want them kept. Creates more variety. But the lack of participation can come from just not having the energy to think of a theme that either hasn't already been done, is interesting enough to get the votes, and lack of visibility if a ton have already been suggested.

2020-12-07 14:15:49 +0000 UTCI’d like to keep them but it might be worth updating the description so people don’t suggest themes that aren’t relevant to the month and reward type or themes that are specific enough to include only a few characters. Patreon is also at fault here as pinned messages don’t show up easily in the app.
