A minute later, your phone pings with a reply: “On my way.”
You can barely sit still as you wait. The wand feels almost like it’s humming in your hand, like it’s as excited as you are for the upcoming show. You quickly stash it back in the box, just enough to hide the strange warmth it radiates, ready to play it off casually when your friend arrives. No need to freak them out from the get-go.
When the doorbell rings, you can’t help but grin. You usher them inside, making small talk as you both settle in your room. The box sits on your desk, innocent-looking. Your friend glances at it skeptically, eyebrows raised.
“So, this is the big deal?” they ask, giving you a look that’s equal parts doubt and amusement.
“Just wait,” you say, trying to keep the excitement out of your voice. “I think it might actually work.”
They scoff, folding their arms, clearly waiting for you to do something.
