Bus Trip - How it was done (PSD-source included)

If you are interested in how some of my works are arranged, I thought it would be great to show this on the example of the second page of the recent comic "Bus Trip".

01. Back in August of this year, I took a commission from the wonderful tiger Ty Hanson. He sent me these references and said that I could come up with something for my taste.

02. As you may have noticed, I love the topic of public nudity. And I wanted to make art in which yiff takes place on a bus in public 😏

When I started making a sketch, the commission, which was conceived as 1 art, turned into a 4-page comic!!

03. After 3 months, I had time for this commission and I started doing it.

I love detailed backgrounds. And best of all, when they are made in 3D, and I have worked hard in the 3DS Max program so that I have both a bus and what surrounds it.

Interesting fact. I really love "Easter eggs". And if there is an opportunity to insert information with a reference, then I will certainly do it. There are two such "Easter eggs" on this bus at once:

The first is the number at the top of the bus 778. If you look at Wikipedia in the article "Naturism", you will find out: "The first known use of the word naturisme occurred in 1778".

The second is the number of the bus itself GEN191. This is a reference to the Bible - Genesis 19:1:

"The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gateway of the city"

In my opinion, it's a good coincidence, because our tiger sits and meets two "angels" 😇

04. Everything else was a matter of technique. I drew a detailed sketch.

05. I rendered and made the background more "artistic".

Pay attention to the inserts on the glasses - these are the places that are visible in the gaps behind the characters, I have painted the background so that these places are more interesting.

06. Neat lineart.

07. For the convenience of work, I create layers with bright colors so that in the future it will be convenient to select an arm or leg or ear separately with one click and work on this part of the body separately (when I do color or volume).

08. A flat color without everything else looks like this. Blush is traditionally an important part of color, without it it turns out less vital.

09. To create a layer with volume, I take as a basis primitive blanks inserted into 3DS Max inside the bus.

I render them in high resolution and then manually finish the details in Photoshop, based on the boundaries of the lineart: I finish the hair, eyes, add volume to muscles, piquant parts of the body, etc. The result is as follows:

10. I separate some objects from others with a separate layer so that they don't seem flat. This is an important effect that gives a fair amount of volume.

11. I apply the layers obtained in the previous two stages on top of the flat color in a tricky way.

Layer from point 09: two layers in the "Multiply" mode, one "Soft light" and an almost transparent layer in the "Normal" mode. And also on top in the "Multiply" mode, I apply a layer from point 10.

12. If you overlay the previous item (all layers with volume) on a white background, it will turn out like this:

13. But we put all this on our flat color, and the picture turns out like this:

14. Then I add our linart (which I tint in colors that surround the line, but darker shades) and add highlights (mainly on the eyes and hair).

15. After that, I make small adjustments (for example, I slightly adjusted the position of the tiger's eyes and nipples). I add a general color correction, apply a little noise - and everything is ready!
