Halloween 2021 (all process and PSD-source)

0. At the heart of any good art is a desire and an idea. The desire was to draw something on the theme of Halloween. I googled some images to understand the visual atmosphere.

1. The idea is important. The idea of this art seemed to me witty: a dominator-devil in an angel costume holds an "innocent" creature in a devil costume on a leash.

Judy was originally supposed to have a pumpkin on her head! This stupid thought remained in the first sketch (in the first picture), but I quickly realized that this looks very ridiculous))

2. Halloween is primarily associated with suburban 2-storey houses, with a cozy evening or night street. I wanted to make sure that the characters were inscribed in a reliable detailed background, so I made an environment in a 3D program.

3. At first I wanted to make evening lighting (when the sun is about to set), and I really liked this light in itself, but the atmosphere of Halloween was lost. It should be the night! So I changed the light to night (option on the right) and re-rendered all the backgrounds.

4. Now that I have an environment, I made a more detailed sketch.

5. Linart and eyes (I draw pupils with color at once, without making any lines around them)

6. Flat color. This is how it looks if you turn off the mask that restricts the color to the contours of the shapes))

And this is how the flat color already looks inscribed together with the lineart in the finished background.

7. Volume. As a basis, I take the light from the 3D scene and transfer them into the framework of my lineart, adding all the necessary details.

8. Separately, I do what I call "Ambient Occlusion" - I separate some parts of the drawing from others with a shadow, which will eventually give additional depth.

9. In a tricky way, we combine stages 5, 6 and 7, and as a result we get an almost finished picture.

10. An interesting detail. The iris of the eyes looks more interesting and as if "immersed in the eyes" if you add a slight blur around it (for this I make an additional layer below the main one, apply a blur and make it a little more transparent).

11. Then I painted the lineart in colors close to what surrounds the lineart (but slightly darker) and added highlights in different places.

Also at this stage I worked on Judy's ass. I must admit, this is my favorite stage in drawing :3

12. I add splashes, drool, all these droplets to the drawing. If I make just a color instead of a background, then these layers with drops will look like this:

13. And now we have the final result ready (which you could see in full-size quality in my previous posts).

 P. S. An interesting detail. Many people noticed the funny address of Nick's house "69 Yiff St.", but probably few people noticed that the picture on the wall in Nick's house is one of my previous art about Jack Savage.

You can see the set with these pictures with Jack here:

A PSD file with all the layers (be prepared for a huge number of these layers and overlay modes, all the way I like) you can download from the link:
