Contest for a character design! (November/2024), ends on the 31st

It's time for a kobold >:3 This one is a monk, talented at martial arts and bonking with her great stick, who only uses her magical energy as a last resort. She left her monastery many a year ago and has been wandering the world ever since. As a way to relax and meditate, she likes crafting little items and knick-knacks from straw, such as her belt and the stick ornament. Some people have grown to believe her crafts bring good luck, and she trades them for favors every now and then.

In order to participate, you must answer the prompt:

She is a wanderer; what would make her settle down? What would motivate her to create a home for herself, either in a town or the wilds?

Rules:

•  Try to keep it under 100 words
•  Post your entry as a comment to this post
•  There is no correct answer! Just come up with something you think would fit.

Upon leaving the monastery she began to wander the lands in search of a place to settle and give her teachings. It was her teachers final wish before he passed on, to go and spread what she had been taught and to show the world the good she can do. When she wandered into the town of Glendon she noticed one thing that didn't sit well with her, they were being oppressed by a group of bandits. Seeing the injustice she decided to help. Fighting against the bandits while in town she eventually managed to draw out the bandits leader but he wouldn't come alone. Hopelessly out numbered she was ready to fight till the bitter end. But the villagers she had helped in town had finally decided they liked the way they were now living. She was backed up by the villagers armed and ready to fight for her, for their village. This brought fear to the bandits hearts and made them run for the hills. When the kobold made a move to leave a little while later she was besieged by the locals to stay claiming that they wanted her to stay. She felt her heart flutter as she was offered a home a place to spread her teachings to an entire generation of towns people. They would be able to learn from her to teach others and pass her masters last words. She was interested. She had found a home... she was home. Little Maple Greenscale had found herself a final home.

Basil wandered the land after she left the monastery, exploring the beautiful kingdoms of Tiira. One day, she came upon a small struggling village within the farmlands of Zhydhll. The land was dark and withered. The people were starving– their crops destroyed by an ancient curse sweeping the land. The situation was dire and the village would likely fall without her aid.She planted her greatstaff into the ground, her runic markings glowing as she channeled her connection to the wilds. Green energy flowed from her body and through the staff into the earth. Her druidic magic cleansed the dark curse. She decided to stay, creating thriving farmland to help the village grow.

After a hiking accident in the hills had left her with a broken leg, she was found by a forager of a nearby settlement. She recognized the kobold as she previously bought a straw bow for her hat made by the kobold. They went back to the settlement. There the forager works for an alchemist, who tended to her injuries. After a few months the kobold had fully recovered from her injuries. She decided to work as forager as well, both to thank the alchemist, and to be out in the wilderness in case anyone needed help, like she did.

I don't think I'm very good at writing prompts like this, as this was my worst subject in school, but here you go: The monk was wandering in the wilderness, looking for the next remote village to stop by for a respite. However, she never noticed that she entered the forest that's known locally as the Weirding Ways. She travelled for days on end, never seeming to find her way to the next village. She noticed she kept coming back around the same spot over and over again, for days on end. After being lost for a month, she decided it was best to settle down where the Weirding Ways kept leading her to. She thought it best that if she couldn't ever escape, she'd be of solace and help to any others that pass by in the future.

In the monastery, she had a steady life, friends, and as much peace and quiet as she could want. She elects not to use her supernatural skills, so she's clearly trying to challenge herself. This cute kobold is after some self-improvement she can't find in the monastery. She doesn't want to be some brute that solves all her problems with force, so she limits herself. She'll settle down when she realizes she's already reached her goals- but she's so wound up that someone else will have to point it out to her.

in her wandering practice period. she have done a lot of pieces made of straw, and love the sense of making them gradually. now she accidentally come into a large grass field where full of straw. she begin to attempt to use these straw to make a lot of creatures like bnuy deer and even kobold. she enjoy the accompany of creatures she made and decide to settle down. in a full moon night she surprisingly found the the creatures are all come in to life and become her best friend for the whole life

A sense of community is what binds so many to places, if one does not have this feeling of belonging, it's likely one will take on an adventure to find what their heart and soul yearns for. The monastery was too restricting, but the towns are filled with people of so many varying thoughts that it's impossible to live a peaceful life amidst them. A place far from others, quiet and filled with fauna. That is something they'd call a home. A place where she can practice her craft and improve herself away from the prying judgmental eyes of society.

Monks, by nature, embody an unwavering patience, guided by an infallible devotion to a purpose far greater than themselves. To believe is to leap farther than what your mind can comprehend. To trust is to peer beyond the darkness, knowing there is light nearby. To live is to let go and intertwine with the environment, embracing every sense. To practice these virtues is to recognise that you can be GREATER and that others can journey through the same path. She clutches firmly to her principles, undeterred by external influences. So when our monk stumbles onto a quaint village after weeks of treacherous hiking, blossoming with life and bright music drifting through a gentle breeze - a child gazes at her seemingly ethereal-like figure, their eyes yearning for more: “Will you teach us your ways?” they say, their curiosity beaming in anticipation The monk smiles.

Antarados

Across a realm of calamities and godslayers are humble monks who travel the plains, across gliding grass oceans from dirt village to cascading villa, in search of enlightenment. Sonder ate away at the monastery, which sent their globetrotters on crusades to gain stories from the people at large. One, spunky and excitable in nature, would use trinkets out of twine to spark conversation. Pridefully having learned the lives of thousands, only the proposal of a store which she’d sell her wares for others’ stories would ever allow her to settle. Yet, until it may come, still does she roam.

Pookie

I have nothing from their visuals that tells me this, but i weirdly read them as trans. They became a monk because they were unsatisfied with how they viewed themself as weak. Even after becoming a pretty proficient monk, they didnt like how they felt so they started traveling. Eventually she met some mage or found some magic item that let her change her gender. After that, they didnt really have a reason for traveling as much since they were more content with themself. So they kinda just stopped in the town they changed in.

nightstar6

For most of her life she has traveled the lands of her home looking for something her compatriots would judge her for. She lived in the outskirts of a town that needs no protection from raiders or beast in a temple that needs some touching up all for a selfish reason. You see a monk is not to give in to worldly desires but she has, the people of the village know of this and use it to their advantage to get help from her, The only thing she can't resist is sweets!

Foxtrot

For a long time, the kobold monk has wandered the land, enigmatic and helping where she can, until one day, she found herself wandering into a small village, the villagers there requesting her help to defend their little village from local raiders and thieves, she of course, obliges, helping to keep the village safe. She'd only planned to stay a short while, but, over time, she got to know the villagers as she helped, learning names, faces, and stories, with the villagers eventually offering her an old home on the outskirts of the village. It was unclear to her why she accepted and chose to stay, but the villagers were more than grateful she had.

Night Star

Mikiru the modest monk is not one for flashy personal expression, adorning herself much the same as the stick she carries. Rather than a place in town connected with the day-to-day world, she would choose to settle in a small house out in the wilds. Nestled comfortably in a high mountain valley, mild summers would give way to sharp chill winters where the afternoons fall dark and silent early. Such a climate was ideal for her to grow her own crop of strong grasses, with which she could fashion toys, talismans, clothes, and even the roof of her own house.

Remmy Bunny

While traveling, She arrives in a peaceful village where the locals are kind and fascinated by her trinkets. Before leaving, she hears grunts and screams in the distance and discovers a boy punching a tree, hurting and bruising his hands in the process, bringing her curiosity to ask about his reasons. The boy, an orphan, tells her about his father sacrificing himself to save him and his desire for revenge. Touched by his story, she decides to stay with him, acting as a parent figure. She plans to teach him her ways of living, fighting, and loving nature, drawing from the knowledge she gained in a monastery. She hopes to make the world a better place by sharing her wisdom. Calling this village her new home.

CosmicServalLeo

What would make her settle down? She would of course settle down when she found the love of her life. Building a home in the woods but near town for easy access to amenities. While also being remote enough for some "fun" time with her husband without the whole neighboorhood knowing. Living near the woods also buffs her mystery aura for her crafts to sell. People like to gossip, y'know.

Der Burger

During her wandering year, she helped many people in need. helped farmers fend off robbers. Make a straw amulet of blessing for sick children, but without exception, she leaves without hesitation after the problem is solved. She traveled all over the continent to continue her practice, like a tumbleweed. when she finally finished her practice and wanted to settle down, she found that the whole continent had no place for her. while she was distressed people who had received her help showed up and helped her locate and settle down, she realized that she was not alone.

friskeyacoon

For a wanderer like herself to wander, she probably has to ponder a question or find a space that she can settle down in. It is far on the frontier-town, where fledgling miners and ranchers are trying to find fortune. For herself, she is hoping to find peace on the top of the steppes. She finds affinity with the bison, but is also a thorn to the town as she guards the herd with stubborn resilience.

Dalmonite

From a young age, she has trained to be unbeatable, and prove kobolds can be as strong as anyone despite their size; after years of fighting and winning all encounters, she met a dragon atop a mountaintop and unfazed she challenged him to a brawl. Before the fight was over, she had thrown herself to his muzzle and kissed him, his strength and kindness having sparked something in her that she never knew was there. And thus she settled down with her new lover, training to be ever stronger to defend his lair and their brood.

Obsidian

A wanderer craves the road. If she found a place that is both interesting, where people from all over the land tend to come and go, she’d settle down, hear the stories, share her own. Learn about places she’s never been at, teach those travelers of the sights she’s seen. And then, one day, somebody will discover that she’s gone. Maybe with a notice or a gift left in place, maybe not. That matters little. A wanderer craves the road after all.

mazinja

I think she would settle down finding a nice quiet mountain side village where the soil runs rich she would live her life in the serenity of her mountain home growing herbs and veggies teaching those who come to her the calmness of nature and the wonders if natural medicine

Travis Ryan

She would only settle down if she fell in love, of course! But not with any one person, but with the environment around her. The people and creatures there, gentle breezes, beautiful sights; she'd only stay if she couldn't bear to leave. After a lifetime of adventure, she'd plant her staff in the ground, letting it grow into a mighty tree that says "She was here". And if she could she'd try to find the god of that land and ask for their hand in marriage.

LunarLiv

Secretly, she already know a place that she can call home, a place where nature and everyone are respected, a place where harmony is not just a word, but a way of life, and one close to nature. She had found it a while ago. But she did not settle there because of the tyrants of a lord controling the land. She hope that someday that tyrant will be gone... Only then will she find that village again and settle down.
