NEWS: I'm moving at the end of August! So around that time there will be a week without an update! Sorry about that! Last Thursday I got a email from my apartment with their "time to renew!" bit. For the next year they wanted to raise my rent by $230 a month. Yeah, no. Fuck that. Fuck them. I'm outtie! With how shitty they've been with fixing that leaking bath faucet, having yet to return my fire extinguisher after over two months, and not even putting my cat on the lease after I told them, I'm astonished they want to raise rent that fucking high. Worse yet, the apartments that are larger than mine go for $100 less! Not even a one off "oh this one is cheaper because reasons." They have 5 apartments open that are the next size up from mine and they're all $100 cheaper. The fuck is up with that? So the moment I got that email I immediately hopped on over to the website of this one community and checked for apartments, and lucked out that that was the day they had some studio apartments sub $1100 a month. I left work early, went over there, took a tour, and applied. Got accepted and now just waiting until closer to the date to change my renters insurance over because they won't let me change the address until it's two months out. Amusingly, once I factored in all the fees and utilities, my new apartment on the expensive end with electricity will only be about $20 a month more expensive than I pay now. The apartment is smaller (going from 550 sqft to 420 sqft), but I don't care. I'm just gonna ditch my couch and my old bike that I haven't ridden since 2016 that's taken up space in the middle of the room. Or hell, put a tarp over it and put it out on my balcony at the new apartment. If someone takes it it won't be the biggest deal in the world as I haven't been using it anyway. Definitely need new tires if I plan to ride it again. On the plus side maintenance seems to be great going off a decade + of reviews on reddit, walking distance to stores I like to go to, walking distance to two grocery stores and a walmart that's a 3 minute drive away, plus the AMC with more movie screens instead of the one I've been going to. I used to drive to it to see some of the smaller films but driving there was always a pain in the ass. Now it's a stone toss away! Hell yeah! Most importantly of all: my commute to work is exactly the same. Well, better in the sense that I no longer have to get on the highway and deal with its construction anymore. Traffic lights suck, but sitting in a turn lane for 8 minutes sucks even more. I'm pretty excited. It'll be a nice change of pace and scenery.
